The owners then made arrangements

gave out, and im May 1865 the property was purchased by the New York
and Grass Valley Company -for $27,000. Up to that time tlie mine had
yielded $200,000, over half of which.

systematically and profitably worked
by the New York Company for two
years-afterwards, the rock varying
from $20 to $50 to the ton. After
several year’s work, and the taking
out of over $200,000 miore, the mine
was shut down. It is thought
by many, however, that the ledge
has been thrown out of place by some
convulsion, and that by prospecting
a good” paying ledge will be found.
_ Since 1867 no work has been done
on the claim, the machinery being
well taken care of in the meantime.
During the five years ofits operation,
it produced about $410,000. The
mill is to be entirely remodelled, and
work will be commenced at an early
date. on :
