The rich chute of ore finally gave out, and im May 1865 the property was purchased by the New York and Grass Valley Company -for $27,000. Up to that time tlie mine had yielded $200,000, over half of which. had been clear profit. The mine was systematically and profitably worked by the New York Company for two years-afterwards, the rock varying from $20 to $50 to the ton. After several year’s work, and the taking out of over $200,000 miore, the mine was shut down. It is thought by many, however, that the ledge has been thrown out of place by some convulsion, and that by prospecting a good” paying ledge will be found. _ Since 1867 no work has been done on the claim, the machinery being well taken care of in the meantime. During the five years ofits operation, it produced about $410,000. The mill is to be entirely remodelled, and work will be commenced at an early date. on : ~~ mM Comparison of Rajyfiil.
