xunty upon the prospect of the ealy
onstruction-of a horse car railrad.
rom Nevada and Grass ‘Valley ¢oJolfax. A company is-about orgm’, ‘horse car railroad, between tle.

“unty conceived the idea of forming

-uch # read, if found practicable. .
After a thorough investigation, based .
upon éstimates made in the San
‘Francisco foundries and car builders,
-and results demonstrate it to be one
-of the best investments in the State,
The whole road can be completed in
six months, and the entire road fully
equipped -with-running stock ata
eost net to exceed one hundred thou-+
sand dollars. ‘The estimates for a T
rail, lighter than usedby the Central Pacific road, is $2,700 per mile,
and the cars will cost about $1,000
on which the stages now run be used
for the road-bed of the new road.
But little new grading will be necessary, and as the road is already maeadamized in the track-way, about
the only work required will be to lay
the-ties and rails. Those who are
interested_inthe matter are confident
that with the present travel and
freight they can Garry produce at
4 50. per ton—cheaper than it has
ver been brougltt by teams. ~Pasenger fare will be not to exceed $2>
The running time cn such a road
Will be about six miles an hour, and
the cars will be.enabled to make four
trips a day each way, between Nevada
nd Grass Valley, and to connect
» all the trains with mails and .
Jngers on the Central Pacific at
ix. On the start,-horses wil be
d entirely, but if it be found after
seriment to warrant the change,
Yuprovements will be made in the
evades, and light locomotives substi‘teted for horses. By this arrangeCrust

Our citizens will be waited upon

_Périodic Disorders. ————
The paroxysmal maladies which are charsively at this season, and-it-is‘a curious fact
that in many parts of ihe country where_
they are prevalent, other diseases, that bear
no general resemblance to feverand ague, or
remittent fever, assume a periodic type.
:
. Thus; in many sections infested with chills ae
Chemical Paint Company,
and fever, rheumatism, neuralgia, hysteria,
diarrhoea, &c., sometimes become intermittent, thereby indicating that they havg been
eagendered by the same poisonous exhalations which produce the first named disease.

Miners and Consumers of Tebacco
In-all these masked cases of .ague—for
stch they are—as well as in the regular intetmittents, the most safe and reliable remedy that ean be administered is Hostetter’s
Stomach Bitters._Neither quinine nor arsenic are needed; Botli are in the highest
degree dangerous, and are suré to leave sad
trates of their poigonons action in the BYStem, whether they arrest paroxysms or not.
In many instances all the so-called specifics
of the “‘regular” materia medica utterly fail
to “break up” intermittent and remittent
disorders. But the great vegetable tonic
never fails. Thespasm of the minute blood
vessels which causes the chill, is the result
of Nervous weakness, produced by the debilitating-eperations of an unwholesome atmosphere, andthe tone and vigor given to
the nervous system bythe Bitters; enable it
to throw off the disease. “Lhe wiser policy,
however, is to anticipate atiacks-of this nature, by arousing all the latent energies of
the body at the commencement of the moist
and chilly season, with. this incomparable°
antidote. By pursuing—-this course, intermittents, remittents, rheumatism,-colic, bilousness, dyspepsia and pulmonary affections may always be prevented.
