Ni ———— = fe y OF able & APFa NEVADA CITY, GAL.) = . : rT _— aittulate the people of this xunty upon the prospect of the ealy onstruction-of a horse car railrad. rom Nevada and Grass ‘Valley ¢oJolfax. A company is-about orgm’, ‘horse car railroad, between tle. Jaces named. A gentleman of this “unty conceived the idea of forming company for the -eenstruction of . -uch # read, if found practicable. . After a thorough investigation, based . upon éstimates made in the San ‘Francisco foundries and car builders, -and results demonstrate it to be one -of the best investments in the State, The whole road can be completed in six months, and the entire road fully equipped -with-running stock ata eost net to exceed one hundred thou-+ sand dollars. ‘The estimates for a T rail, lighter than usedby the Central Pacific road, is $2,700 per mile, and the cars will cost about $1,000 on which the stages now run be used for the road-bed of the new road. But little new grading will be necessary, and as the road is already maeadamized in the track-way, about the only work required will be to lay the-ties and rails. Those who are interested_inthe matter are confident that with the present travel and freight they can Garry produce at 4 50. per ton—cheaper than it has ver been brougltt by teams. ~Pasenger fare will be not to exceed $2> The running time cn such a road Will be about six miles an hour, and the cars will be.enabled to make four trips a day each way, between Nevada nd Grass Valley, and to connect » all the trains with mails and . Jngers on the Central Pacific at ix. On the start,-horses wil be d entirely, but if it be found after seriment to warrant the change, Yuprovements will be made in the evades, and light locomotives substi‘teted for horses. By this arrangeCrust lation ing. Feb. week, WS: LDS ‘. Bergely increased. €. —ITS '* .¥. . Grass Valley,. March 6th, 1872: ment muuch better time can be made. The heaviest grade on the ‘whole route is between Nevada and Grass Valley, near the Lown Talk, and Much heavier grades~are run constantly up the street roads. in San Franciseo. This is a practicable_enterprise, and we seein it an imme~, diate prospect for a railroad communication with the centres of trade. e advantages of such a road will "e inealculable to the tewns of Nevaband Grass Valley, and to the entire county for which these places would be depots. It is safe to preflict that the local travel will be doubled, and the amount of freighting All the ridge travel will come this way, as well as all the’ business from the upper part of the county. Nearly all the freight that now goes by heavy’ teams from Marysville forty or fifty miles into the uppet part-of Yuba and Sierra counties, will also come this way, as it will give the shortest, quickest.and cheapest means of transportation for passengers and freight to and from the Bay. Collection Day. Our citizens will be waited upon to-day for their monthly contributions to the Benevolent Society, by Messrs. W. H. Crawford and E. M. Preston. The funds of the Society are getting low, and it is hoped that. our people will be prompt in giving their 50 cent contributions. The Organ.
