LOCAL AFFAIRS.
The Proceeds and the New Bell.
At a meeting of the Bell Society,
held on Saturday evening last, it
was ascertained that the net-pro=
ceeds of the entertainment given on
_ Wednesd y evening, was $148 30,
which sum, with $20 more in the
treasury, will be appropriated towards the purchase of a bell for the
new Methodist Church. It was the
‘intention of the society at first‘to get
a steel bell, on aeconnt of its cheap“ness, the cost -being‘but about 21°
cents per pound, but-as_ no guarantee-is-given-that they will not break
——within-a-year, and-as-several of our.

and.tin (bell metal,) which costs 37
cents per pound, the society have
