The examination of applicants for certificates to teach in the public schools of the county will be held at Washington schoolhouse in this city, beginning at 9:30 o’clock to-morrow morning. We hope the Board of Examination will not give an opportunity tor a repetition of the outTageous swindles that were perpetrated by several of the female apPlicants last year, and which, althongh exposed by the Transcrirt and clearly proven by the thost positive testimony, were winked at by the Board. We say that session’s record and the subsequent proceedings proved a blot upon the educational system of Nevada county and the people will be reminded of it from year to year so long as this pape: continues to exist. We would suggest that the. short-hand report of. the so-called “‘investigation” of the frauds be transcribed into long-hand (we tried to have it. done long ago bat the Board did not seem to want to face the record), and then framed .and hung up in the room where all the examiners and” the exaniinees could refer to it every morning be-: fore prayers, if they have such things ~ws-the latter at teachers’ examinatious, bd AN HONORABLE COURSE. The San Francisco Alta of Sunday Morning pays this tribute to the upright action of Nevada county on Tuesday last : ‘‘Nevada county has voted by a two-thirds majority to incir a bonded indehtedness sufficient to afford relief for the present tivat‘cial stringency.“ As the only apparent alternative was a repudiation of the floating debt, the people of the county. are to be congratulated upou the adoption of a course so honorable. Many other counties are in the same position, but instead of taking pomp: action to protect their ‘credit. they are patiently waiting for something to turn up and playing the happygo-lack policy, Nevada City voted by 11 tol in favor of the bonds ani the Ridge precincts also gave a twothirds majority, but Grass Val ey voted against the bonds by a small majority and several small precincts did the same.” jn 0. Tue accounts from the region in Mississippi desolated by the late cyclones are piteous in the: extreme. Hundreds were injured, and hundreds lost everything. JoHN WRrxsu of Lordsburg, N.
