The appearance of the mine was becoming really encouraging. . During the temporary suspension of

The prospects of the Kenton
quartz mine, near Alleghany City,:
Sierra county, are daily improving.
An extensive body of rich ore, speci“mens of which .were on exhibition
yesterday at the National Hotel in
this city, is developed and ready for
extraction. It.is safe to say that
over one thousand tons is now in sight
inthe mine. The taking out and
crushing has bow been going on for
several weeks, and with highly favorable results. There is sufficient
water to run all the machinery, and
the expense’ is consequently light.
Itis.one of the solid mines of this
part of the State, and. is bound to
make a healthy record the coming
“summer. About 20 skilled miners
are now employ: ed. at the Kenton,
besides a cousiserable foree of other

Nevada county is entitled to an
everlasting crown of glory férthe no-"
-ble stand shie-took.in expressing her
enmity for the new Constitution. It
may be true that she did not do so
bya very great majority ; but at the
same time it should be—remembered
. that a powartal element had to be
en that the Rearneyites were once in
the ascendancy. They would’ still
have been, if a determined fight had
‘not been made by -the opposition
speakers, the Union and the Transcript. No other section of the State
can produce as grand a record as Nevada county made on the Constitution question. gThe unprejudiced
were ‘led to view. the subject in
in its proper aspect, and although
the new Constitution had the: great
mass of our voters ov its side only a
few weeks since,-when the time for
election came an astonishing changes
had taken place. For its own interest, Nevada county should have cast
& UNANIMOUS VOTE against it. The

The old Constitution has according to it a majority of 11. votes. Irregularities are reported, however,
from Lowell Hill, North Bloomfield,
Moore’s Flat and Lake City. A careful
investigation isto be made, and the
probabilities are that the vote in all,
or nearly all, of those precincts will
be thrown’out. In event they are,
the majority against the new Constitution in this county will be swelled
to nearly 200 votes. Let us pray it
maybe so.
Monor to Nevada City.
The Grass Valley Union, which by
the way made one of the most effective fights for the salvation of. the
“Old Ship” of any newspaper in the
State, thus compliments the good
sense displayed by Nevada City’s
voters at the late election: ‘The
city of Nevada, against thenew Constitution, is really one of the most
remarkable results of the late ele. tion’ The place has been a stronghold: of the Workingmen’s party,
which has shown its-head and power
@ year.or more on the occasion of all
elections, whether for schools, town
or géounty. One month-ago it was
confidently claimed by these supporters that they would carry the
.town by from 250. to 350 majority;
and no later than the night before
the election one of the leaders of the,
party told the editor of the Union that they would obtain a majority of 200 there. The friends of the
old Constitution did grand work on
election day, and well may they feel
proud of it. The: news, when it
reached Grass Valley, created the
“greatest enthusiasm, and although we
were yery proud of our 307 majority
we felt that Nevada had won a_ victory e t consideri the

certainly sustained that reputation

Thursday-evening. ‘The concert, as
a whole, was enjoyable, afid the
audience displayed their approbation
by frequently applauding the performers. It is likely that it will be
repeated in this city at some future
date, when we are confident a crowded house could be secured,
