lands in that vicinity. There are
thousands of acres there that are of
no use to anybody in their present
state, it being ‘utterly impossible to
utilize it without water, and the
movement is projected to give ita
good ‘and permanent value, . The
land can now be bought of the Government for $1 25 per acre, and
when the , enterprise is carried
_through, it is claimed it will be
worth $5 or $6, and perbaps more.

which paid well from the commencement, and has increased all the way
down. The shaft is nowabout thitty,

till Wednesijay noon, he took out, it
is estimated, between $30,000 and
$40,000, $7,000 of which was taken
outin an hour. This statement is
corroborated by parties who have
geen it, The ledge is about one foot
in thicknees, and is mostly decomposed rock, _ Themine is now shut

specimen, worth about $400, is on
exbibition atthe bank. Mr, Ball on
Wednesday, sold his mine for $20,000
to some parties from Inyo county.

Messenger tells about that rich strike
at Forest City which has created so
much excitement and * been. referred

several times: ‘The ledge of goldbeariug sulphurets, recently dis‘covered in the North Fork mine,
Forest City, is proving a perfect
bovanza. Up. to.. Wednesday cthe
company had taken ont in the neighburbood of $100,000. In one’ day’s
work, this week, over $20,000 worth
of the précions metal was tukeu out.
We nunderstahd that the company
have raised . on the ledge, and
tapped a botly of five looking
gravel which is probably the chanvel they were developing when the
dedge was struck. Severul of exchanges sconted the report that the
rock woul. assiy $25,000 to the ton.
We are informed that ou Monday

the assay of it was at the rate of a
little over $23,000 to the ton. The
discovery of this rich quartz has
started up prospecting at a very liveold sbandoved ‘mines are about to be
reworked, and altogether the appearances bid fair for lively times at
Forest City.
