Xo . ‘teed in conjunction with the cavalry of the THe CominG Evecrion.—Tho various elements of the Union party are beginning ~ contest, and we are sorry to see that the de— ant of the plans of certain parties goes wearin ‘there exists in the party = ~onemies of the country forthe purpose of ~securing their own onds or advancing the intoreste of their fayorites—imen who would. barter the principles of their party to copperheads for the sake of their votes. The “Marysville Appeat séserts that{men in the interest of a candidate for the U. 8. Senate have been negotiating for the influence of the Marysville Express, and premises to give their names, The Grass Valley Union asserts that it hes obtaitied from reliable’ “@ources information that the copperheads have assurances that in certain events there will be a split in the Union party and will " therefore make no, tominations. We have rumors to the same effect, but have not evidence which we. deem sufficient to sustain the charge, but we'do know that there are men, who pretend to: be true to the national -_, @use who are in favor of breaking down all ~ barriers ‘and receiving with open arms all opperheads. They are.the men who want no test atthe primaries except the bare promise to support the nominees. They would for the sake of winning victory bring all the elements of discord which have been demoralized by the overthrow of treason in‘to full fellowship with Union men. That mich an effort is being made throughong this State we have not the slightest doubt, and the facts stated by the Appeal and Union "ie Ofily the details ‘of the project. Union » den stand by your organization, watch * those pretended friends of the Union who ~ are seeking office at your hands and courting favor of those who so™ bitterly opposed va until treason was dead and their party with it.. These men cannot ob_. tain the aid of copperheads except at a sac~~ Fifice of principle, und true men must thwart the schemes of these traitors or forsake principle. Those who haveso much sympathy for defeated and = copperheadism should be left to embrace the fullowers of Jeff. Davis, and Union men should see to it ‘that they are rebuked at the proper time. Let the virus of Democracy once. .enter the Union organization and ite fate is sealed.— The work of the friends of the Uniun is not ", yet accomplished in this State, They must see that a true friend to the nation is sent to the, United States Seuate, and that no man who affiliates. with copperheads obtains a Place in the gift of the people. They must eee that the. State Legislature is composed of good men, in order that this State may ratify the Constitutional Amendment abolishing slavery. Let Union men be vigilant and careful that they may not be deceived by these men who are attempting to sell them and the State for office. The plans are being laid and every true man should watch thedevelopment. Me EasTexn ADVICES.—The cavalry of the: Army of the Potomac is not to. be disband‘ed with the infantry. Itie to be reorganSouth-West and the whole p i under the command of Sheridan, They will’ puwber _sbout 100,000, and the main portion wil! jrobably be sent west of tho Mississippi. Welles Johnson will not suffer his private views in favor of the Monrve doctrine to influence the national pulicy of neutrality ~“@haerved by President Lincula. The -neuAwality laws» will therefory be enforced against all who attempt to compromise the ~Goversiment upon the Mexican’ question. « Baicnam Youne needs castigation for “the “way be is stirring up sedition against . the troops. On Monday night, May Ist, Joseph Williams, of Company M+ Second _ California Cavalry, dh furlough from Fort Bridger, while quietly walking the streets of Balt Lake City; with a young lady ac-. _ Quaintance, was set upon by three cowardly ‘assassins, knocked down and robbed of his pistol. _We hope that Uncle Andy will atie made with the South. His armies have been swept from the land, his power broken and he an outlaw and a murderer. His pictures have been sent to every quarter of ‘the globe that all nations may be made a Police for the purpose of securing his arrest. If ever the earth was cursed by a villain . more execrable than another, such an one is found in Jefferson Davis. He has blasphemiously appealed. to heaven to sustain him in the greatest. crimes-ever committed and in the name of liberty he has attempted to tear down her temple and establish 4 despotism. He has{added to his treason, robbery and murder, In his life, “Treason and murder ever kept together, As to yoke-devils sworn to eithers purpose.” ~Edueated at the expense of the nation, he made the knowledge he received an instrument for the advancement of his hellish purpose. Occupying one of the most exalted positions in the gift of the people, while professing a love for the country, he was plotting for the overthrow of the Government. ‘he will be taken and that a career so infamous as his may have its appropriate conclusion, at the end of a rope. THe Frencn CoMMERCE.—The dispatches tell us that the President of ‘the Mexican Republic has given authority for the building and equipment of privateers tot prey upon the French commerce. The French Emperor will now have an opportunity of experiencing to some extent the difficulties which he aided Jeff. Davis to throw in our way during the war. Should an opportunity be offered to others than citterprising Yankee skippers will eagerly enter the lists, and it may be in case vessels sailing under this authority should be sunk by French guns, one of Uncle Sam's crafts will be near to save the crew after the same manner in which Semmes was rescued from Winslow. Time at last makes all things even and we guess Napoleon will koow ‘it soon. Vi bons é BES": > ‘Tue Féperat Loan.—This quartz ledge recently opened, promises to be as good a thing as “Uncle Sam's” bunds. It is loeated near the Lecompton claims on Deer Creek. The owners have gone déwn upon it and found the lode from one to three feet thick. The rock’ is rich ingold, and every thing indicates that the mine is rich and extensive. The Lecompton is also yielding excellent rock. The Washington company . whose claims are located in the sa ne ney bborhood, have out about twenty-two tons of quartz which will soon be crushed. The rock looks well and will undoubtedly pay. Ir is an odd incident that the Arabian horse sent.to Jeff. Davis from the Vicervy of Egypt as a present, and brought over by a blockade runner, has been captured in North Carolina by Sherman, and held to be given . to President Johnson. If Andy and Jeff. both use that horse at once, Jeff. will have to hang on to the tail. HOTEL De Gwin.—When Dr. Gwin, in Paris, speaks of hie father-in-law’s “hotel,” he designadly aims to convey thoimpreasion that itis a “hotel” in the old style French sense of the term—the city residence of a man of rank. Old Mr Bell, his father-inlaw, only kept a roadside ina, seven wiles from the Mammoth Cave in Keatucky— nothing more. ; “BaD SHOOTERS.—The Opinion Nationale in a curious article un the bad workmanship’ vf the infantry, mentions that 15,000,000 cartridges were used at Solferine te shoot. down 10,000 Austrians at the outside ; which ‘Time Expmep.—The days of grace allowed to deserters under the proclamation of President Lincoln expired.on the 10th. be granted on this crast, In Cattarangua, New, York, the people are putting shutters on all their houses 20 that they can use petroleum—it is s0 much THE Reese Riverites clum that “ile” SS izens of Mexice, we have no doubt that enB M QOPricz : ‘ WPICK—tu Kidd's shows that it took 1,500 bullets to hilt or .
