NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIAS 42 LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. TARGET PRACTICE.—By the amended Militia Law every company is required to tarn out for target practice during the month of May. The Howell Zouaves and Union Guard will hold a pie nic at Glenbrook Park on, Saturday, when these companies will engage in target practicé. It has been suggested that the Light Guard. hold -a-pie-nie sometime about the last of the month, . and extend an invitation to the citizens of Nevada to participate. It certainly would be pleasant if a general pic nic could be gotten up, and we hope the matter will receive the consideration of } the oun pany. ‘MrntInc aT Wasuineton.~<The companies on Rocky Bar, who had their dams, ditches and flume carried away work of reconstruction. They will be ready to commence work in two or three weeks. Esbath & Co., opposite Washington, are-engaged in working the old channel which runs into the Yuba opposite Washington. The taines that are being worked are yielding well, and there is work enough on the ranches and in the mines to give employment to every man in the vicin—_—> Contract Let.—The extension of} the Sneath & Clay mine and the Union are being worked on contracts. A contract has recently been let to take out one hundred tons from the extension A contract which was let in the Union last Winbad weather. The parties are now engaged in work upon it. Tue Pic Nic.—Yesterday quite a large number of persons attended the pic nic of the Baptist Sunday School.— A pleasant ground was selected on Peck’s ravine, and both young and old spent a pleasant day in pic-nicking.— The children especially were delighted at the opportunity afforded for running through the woods and playing their games.
