Kitte? Lumber Railway.
Tidings: Surveyors Aiderman and
“Loughridge on Thursday laid out the
route to be followed by Chas. W. Kitts’
horse-railway, by means of which the
lumber from that gentleman’s timber
tract is to be transported to market.
The railway is to beofthe same gauge
as the local railroad and heavy iron is
to be put down, The roadbed will be
constructed ‘with a view to using a
steam locomotive and train on it some
day. The route surveyed leaves the
Narrow Gauge at this end of the Greenhorn bridge, runs up the creek a distance of three-quarters of a mile, then
crosses the creek .and traverses the
eanyon for a mile and a half;a divide
is then crossed and a ‘quarter of a mile

horsepower being utilized only to haul
the empty car back to the mill. It is
* not at all improbable that after a time
Mr. Kitts’-road will be strengthened
and ‘continued on up to. Voss’. mill,
thence to the mining town of Wasbington and perhaps penetrating the
Ridge still further up. In this event
the work could be taken in hand by
‘the Narrow Gauge Railroad company
and regular trains run over the branch.
The. consummation of this scheme
would tap a fine timber and wood
country. ~
Anmother Lost Boy.
Another Main street, boy of “very
tender years lost himself Friday afternoon. He strayed away with some
other children to Piety Hill, and getting tired sat down in the road to rest
while his companions went on. Wher
the latter reached: home and Young
America was missed, .the excitement
began. Searching parties started out,
and after a little while found the wanderer at Judge Walling’s house, somebody having come across him and
taken him there. The fastenings on
the gates where he lives will be put
higher up now.
The Texas Mine.
Francisco Sunday. The proposed new
shaft at the Texas wi!l be sunk on the . tel who gave Mr. Oliver a carte blanche
north side of Mosquito creek, it having .
been ascertained that the old shaft is
not available. There are four ledges

A Grass Valley Seciai Item.
Telegraph: He was a tenderfoot

him Marshal Pascoe, with the help of
two or three men, was lifting Lim into

not disorderly. He was so drunk he

the job of beautifying the office and
billiard parlor of the National Hotel at
this city. Both rooms have been repapered, and the wodd-work has been
grained in imitation of oak, walnut,
maple, cherry arid laurel., The pillars
have been marbleized. In the billiard parlor Mr. Oliver’s superior skill
as a decorative artist has been displayed to great advantage. Japanese

A sudden Death.
Miss Sarah Ann Curran of Timbuctoo died Thursday morning. For some
tinie past he has not been in the best
of health, being a sufferer from lung
troubles, but it was not thought there
was any immediate danger from her
malady, Thursday morning she arose
and prepared breakfast for ber brother, Denis, who works in one of the.
aines, and started him off to his work.
A short time after she took a spell of
violent coughing which ended in a
severe hemorrhage, from which deatb
resulted in afew moments. She was
aged 25 years and 8 months. The
funeral will take place at ten o’clock
Sunday morning from St. Joseph’s
Cathedral in Marysville.
