About three years ago Frank Souchet located a go d bearing ledge lyinga mile and a_half-mortheast of North Bloomfield, and adjoining the Mt. Blaue claim. He runa tunnel to tap it, but owingto the lack of timbering the workings caved in, He next constructed a ditch, and ground sluiced. Thus the ledge, which averages some eight feet in thickness, was opened fora space about oile hundred feet wide and seventy-five tons, and the owner says it can be blaste ‘site for fifty centsa ton. Old miners and prospeétors who have visited the claim within a few months say that it more vividly reminds them of the “days of forty-nine” than anything they have seen for years. The lead can be reached by sinking a very short distance. The lay of: the ground is such that it can be worked by either the hydraulic or drifé process. ‘There isan abundance of water during most of the year. . This week Mr. Broderick has begun: sinking an incline to reach the bed-rock at what he estimates to be the deepest portiou and expects to get to the bottom in the course of tendays. The property includes a water right that gives h keing attacked, except to demand a 200 feet pressure, and: considerable heavy timber. —_——o oe Wood at the Mines. The late storm was so -unseasona“ple, and therefore unexpected, that: e several mining companies in the district were caught with but a few cords of wood on hand. Had the rain and snow continued the remainder of the week, some of them would have been compelled to shut down part or all of their works. The past winter has taught some of the mine managers severe lessons, and hereafter they will, it is safe to bet, when able, not rest contented during the times of good roads till they have enough fuel on hand to last through the most protractedsiege. ‘‘In time of peace prepare for war” applies pretty well to the subject herein hinted at. ; ir Journalistic Change. The Chinaman who was shot in the leg by a young man near the Idaho ditch Wednesday afternoon, according to the account given by is companions, did nothing to merit pair of boots that had been stolen. Of course this version must be taken with allowance. From their description of the party who fired the shot the officers had their .eu fastened on David Whilldin, and . a warrant wherein he was called ‘‘John Doe” was issued for his arrest. The officer who went after him early in the evening by mistake got Teddy Whilldin, Dave’s brother, who upon. arrival at the Justice’s ‘was immediately discharged from custody. At a late hour yesterday afternoon, Dave had not yet appeared for examination.
