LOCAL ITEMS.
@Outrages.
lt reports which come to us from the
boundary between Eureka townshipand
Sierra-county-be.true, some persons inthat locality ought to suffer the pains
and penalties imposed by the Ku Klux
vill. A man wlio has been residing
ono the Yuba with his family, and
has been working some claims there,
has for months been subjected toa
series of persecutions, designed to drive
bim away in order that the jumpers
anight sell them fora few hundred dols
lars to Chinese. A correspondent informs us that these men follow up
jumping claims as a business, that the
* victim in this caSe has held the claim
for ten years, that after striking pay a
hired man lett him and returned in two
hours with five others as claimants of
the ground.. He breught suit in Dow=
anieville, trigd the case and won it after
much loss of time and expense. But it
was an eMpty victory, as before he got
a-xerdict the. best. otthe _growad-was-}
worked out and the parties were en~
tirely irresponsible. The writer says
these same parties are continuing their
claim -stealing, aad that he recently
saw posted by them a location with fits
teen names attuched, and that none of
the parties had ever set foot upon the
ground, ‘These annoyances have at!
times been such as to endanger the
lives and safety of people. By the cutling of a derrick rope a boy was nearly
killed, and all night the parties fired
at the house to frighten the family off.
Uertainly it the statements of our cerff
réspondent are true, seme steps ought
_to be taken by the local authorities to.
Uring these miscreants to justice, and
if they are powerless, the miners, wliese
neighborhood they disgrace, should
give them notice to quit in such a
shape that it cannot be mistaken.
Omega.
Omega is now one of the liveliest
mining capsin the State. There are
ten claims in operation, and there is not
an idle man in the place. The claims
ure yielding handsomely. Recently
the place has been enlivened by entertainments. Miss Anna Morrison delivered three lectures there, which were
well attended, and a preacher who tras
ded horses twice and gotthe best end
ot the bargain each time, has visited
tue place. The people are temperate,
happy and content, and Omega is in all
respecis w model mining town.
No Racing.
In consequence of the opposition by
alarge number of the patrons of the
Nevada Rink to racing, ube proprietor
is under the necessity of probibiting }the “Time Race,” announced to come
off this evening. Mr. Bullard regrets
having given his consent to the race,
but at the time he was not aware of
AaDY opposition to it. Hereafter no racing will be tolerated in any form so
long as the Rink is controlled by the
preseut proprietor.
Mining Lecations,
J William Ternan & Co. have located
one hundred inches of water in the ravine east of the McCormick reservoir,
for mining purposes. The property is
located in Grass Valley township.
j Clancey & Co. have located one thousand feet on the first extension south
of the Buckeye claim, and running
1000 feet in a sourtherly direction along
the ledge in Wiilow Valley.

Persecuted Organ. .
The human stomach has been a shamefully
persecuted organ. There was a time when
for every dereliction ot duty it was punished
with huge doses of the most disgusting and
nauseous drugs. In vain it rejected them
