Mark Shaver relates how, when he was traveling between this city and San Juart last Monday, he saw a horse, carriage and driver escape unhurt from a predicament that and probably fatal, in iteresults. The gravel mines in Pleasant Valley are beginpving to make their final clean-ups, the supply of water being nearly exhausted. At the Badger Flat claim four men have been busily at work since December last,, and . they are now cleaning up for the first time, with good prospects. Hamilton & Co; are prospecting on Beckman Hill, near Novey’s ranch. There are four or five men working, and they are now in gravel and hard cement. The owners of the property appear to be satisfied with the _outlook. The farmers are beginning harvestjing. The erop outlook is good. Ditch Improvements. The Excelsior Ditch Company contemplate making soime important property, work on the same to be commenced at an early date. The head of the ditch is at the. month of Roek creek, 2} milgs above Hoyt’s old crossing and 5 miles north-west of tewn. At the mouth af Rush creek some heavy masonry work will have to be done, and all slong the line to Smartsville. the ditches and flumes will be re-constructed to -& great extent. J. Brodie of this city worked on this extensive watersupplying enterprise as early as 1855. Mines Sold by the Sheriff.
