imea . OF Ess nes, ote, DE». tity rm jac~ wD hat vad St. he ” Ee OWE NEVADA CITY. Se ITEMS, Yhe Survey Again. At the last meeting of the Executive Committee of the Nevada, Grass Valley and Marysville Railroad Association; it was determined to send for all the maps, etc. made by Mr. Harris. Mr. Marsh accordingly wrote to A.J. Binney of Marysville, who with him was authorized to procure the survey, and the maps, charts and diagrams were immediately sent, accompanied by a letter, in which Mr. Binney says: “I think your people are laboring under a misapprebension in regard to the survey—which I understand was made for a good 3 toot gauge road, and from that data other calculations were made—one for a Jess costly 3 toot gauge und one for a 4 foot 8} inch road. My own convictions are that the estimates are tuo high, should such, however, prove to be the case, after examination of his estimated quantity and quality of material to be used in making road bed, they can readily be modified by aby person Conversant with the cost of work. This, however, J do know, that Mr. Harris is regarded by practical railroad men to have certainly: no superior on this coast as a practical and thoroughly posted engineer, and he does not lack for experience, for he . has done as much engineering for roads that have been constructed as any one on this coast. Ithink I can satisfy any practical man that his work has been well and thoroughly done—perhaps further examination before actual building the road.-will be-considered desirable—but the route, as surveyed, is practicable, and a glance at the profile will show it is more favorable than was to have been expected. As for the prices he estimated for cost of running material, superstructure, quantity and quality ef rolling stock, if we think or know them to be too high, we can apply our own prices to his quantities and so modify the estimates,” The Marysvilie Lottery. The drawing of the Marysville lots tery commenced yesterday morning. The prizes were reduced oneshalf, as . only\chalf of the tickets were sold. Both the first and second prizes were drawn yesterday.
