the invention refers, It is well
known throughont the world, that
Prussia has adepts in working metals who are unsurpassed in any other

o'clock in the morning on Tuesday
and® before it could be extin' guished thet building, Skidmore’s

The water works are effective, bit
the fire had got under such headway

smouldering ashes. The family,
having been up with their sick childreu tuntil 1 o’elock in the night,
were sleeping very sound, and none
knew of the calamity until ‘it. was
all over. How the fire originated
can only be conjectured, The dog
which usually slept in the barn, had i
‘been severely wounded in the thigh,
seemingly by o pitch fork, and this
suggests that the fire was either the
work of an iuvendiary; or, as Mr.
Hobson thinks, of a tramp, who perhaps on getting up and lighting his
-pipe after sleeping there all night,
encountered the dog and ia the ensuing fracus dropped some sparks.
However it may have occured, the
loss is quite severe, as the property
destroyed could not-be replaced for
less than $1,500, while the insurance
we learn, is but $600, The material for the barn alone, when it was
