The State Agricultural Society has / issued a circular addressed to the various Boards of Supervisors in the State, calling attention to the desirability of county exhibits at the State Fair ‘of 1887, and makes the following remarks: “We are informed, and have reason . to believe, that there will be a large influx of Eastern visitors at the State Fair this year. The State Agricultural Society has added a new feature to the premium list this year,in the shape of premiums for exhibits of grain in the sheaf. We call for forty sheafs, ten inches in in’ diameter, of ten varieties; not necessary to be, grown by exhibitor, , but he-must name variety,locality and producer. First_ premium, $40; second, $20, and third, $10. This exhibit is for the purpose of showing our Eastern brethren the growth of.cereals in this great State. The Tulare farmers are still in arms along the irrigating canals. Three thousand shoemakers are out on a strike at Haverbill, Mass. Mining stock values took another upward leap in San Francisco Tuesday. One hundred thousand dollars has been refused for the English racer Bendigo. There is a man in Paris whose nose is his fortune. He isa drawing card on the stage in comedy. Dennis Quinlan, a printer, was inurdered in Omaha on Sunday in consequence of a dance-house row. A Cabinet crisis has occurred in France, Premier Goblet and his colleagues having tendered their resignations. ‘ The President has appointed Major J.L. Rathbone, of Calfornia, to be Consul General of the United States at Paris. The five men who took the most prominent part in the late attempt to assassinate the Czar’ were executed on Monday. Mrs. D. O. Mills and her daughter, Mrs.Whitelaw Reid, started on Monday for California, where they will spend the summer. Policeman Grady, of San Luis Obispo, was compelled to shoot a negro named Rogers in order to save his own life, while endeavoring to make an arrest. ~ Ea Madame Janauschek fell down a flight of steps at Newport, Rhode Island, injuring her so severely as to necessitate abandonment of all her engagements for the rest of the season. Sullivan has agreed to fight Jack Kilrain for $5,000,the fight totake place in some park or. pubic building, the winner to take two thirds of the gate receipts. Not more than six rounds can be fought. There is reported to be a secret organization among colored farm laborers and tenants in South Carolina, having for its, object a. great strike— the one for higher wages and the other for lower rents. i= . ley, May 18th, by Rev. Meyefs, Treasurer of Lincoln county, Nevada, was found dead reclining ina chair at his office at Pioche Wednesday morning at 9 0’clock. Apparently, he died while asleep, of rheumatism of the heart, six. or eight hours before he was found. “He had been expecting death, though walking about the streets, but would allow no one to remain with him at night.
