This cleanup gave the lessees over $4 per day for theirtabor after . paying the owners of the ground fif— ty per cent of the gross proceeds. — The ore was taken from a part of the ‘mine that-had not previously ’ afford— ed v.ry rich rock. The big pumping engine was started upat the Scotia Monday to.run the 12-inch plunger, and during the afternoon was lowering the water in the shaft rapidly, although the engine was not running over four -Strokes-aminute.TPhe braces tq thet pump were not all in place, and hence the pump was not run as fast as it would be if preparations © were entirely completed. Monday evening about dak Marshal ‘Baldridge discovered two wagon loads of Judson blasting powder intherear ot Mills’ stable. They had heen anchored there for the night : by the careless teamsters who were taking them tothe mines. The Marshal made the boys hitch up and move outside the city limits. There ought to be some penalty attached to tsuch recklessness, which appears to be common, Mining Company's Property Burned. Last Saturday afternoon a fire caught in the kitchen of a boardinghouse at Fall Creek, Washington township, destroying the boardinghouse, blacksmith, shop and toolhouse, all owned by the Blue Tent Mining Company. __A defective stovepipe did the ¢ damage.
