Good Thing for Grass Valley.
The Tidings says : About the first
of next July the Idaho Compatiy will
have water power to do all the work
in and about the mine. Steam engines will be on the ground at’ the
Idaho, but they will be: idle unless
in case of accident to the water-driven machinery, Hoisting, pumping
and crushing ores will be done by
water power. It is estimated that ©
in the matter of power alone the.
Idaho Company will cave at least
fifty dollars a day, not counting that
it will take fewer men to attend to
the. water than is now required for
steam power. Of course all other
mines in this district’ will use the
cheaper water power when they can
get it. Very many of the mines now
entirely idle, or which are worked i in
a spasmodic; way, ought to start up
and keep regularly st work wit
water power. . This cheapness’ will
enable that to be done, All the
known gold bearing ledges (and there
are'hundreds of them) situated below and south of the'Idaho can get
water, we suppose, and most of them
can be worked successfully under the
system that is 0 much cheaper than
steam, The mines of Gold Hill,
New York Hill, Allison Ranch and
Forest Springs can get water and
