ROGERS. , The -Duily Transeript always like to hear from their former NEVADA CITY, CAL. ge Nevada Ceunty People. A resident of Nevada county will find acquaintances in every section of the State and in all sorts of business. A few nights since, at the Cosmopolitan Hotel, San Francisco, there were some twenty-five or thirty residents or ex-residents of Nevada eounty.-Old Nevada county people homes, and many questions are asked in regard to. thepiace. Many men who have gone out from Nevada county have attained positions of prominence in other places. A Senator, a SupremeJudge, and a Con“troller of Nevada State, are old residents of Nevada county. An exGovernor of the great State of Illinois is also an old resident of ‘Nevada county. The list of men who have gone away from this county, and now held positions of honor and profit in other places would fill aj whole column. The resident of Nevada. meets them everywhere, and they are generally good men. City Election. As the city election is close at hand it would be well for voters to post themselves as to the requifements of ihe new law governing elections. The following are some of the most . important points to ‘be observed by inches long and four inches wide, so thatit may be folded four times. All tickets are to be alike; to~ mark any ticket is a criminal offense, and it is not permitted for any person to show by his ticket how he votes. It is against the law to distribute tickets within one hundred feet of the polling place, or for a voter to show, by opening his ticket, or otherwise, how he votes. Tickets must be free from every mark or device by which they can be distinguished.” Annual ‘Target Excursion. During the present month the Nevada Light Guard will hold their an_ nual targetexcursion, It is proposed to make a whole day of it, and to have-a large list of prizes to be con. tested for. This time those who miss the target may come in, as the orders from headquarters required every miss to be courted as twenty inches. The regular military meeting will be held on Saturday evening of this week, when arrangements.will be completed for the excursion. Evyery member should be present at the monthly meeting. The order will be found in to-day’s paper. Joke om Stidger. Judge Stidger, of San Juan, was in San Francisco recently, when the St. Louis Committee arrived. After the serenade at the Occidental, the crowd were at a loss who to call for, and _ during the pause some one suggested the name of ‘*Stidger.’”” Immediately the call was taken up by several, and was rapidly spreading when Stidger put a quietus on by requesting them to go to a warmer climate, declaing that he was “‘no Missourian.” ae Yesterday was the warmest day of the season. Dolly Varden hats and linen coats are making appearance on the streetg, and ginger pop is the popular drink. The fruits trees are in full bloom. Should no heavy frosts oceur the apple crop will be immense. The peach and other fruits which bloom early haye been injured, bat grapes, apples and all late fruits will be abundant. Theatre Fo-Night. The great Milburn Combination Troupe will give another of their untivalled exhibitions at the Theatre to-night, The hearty reception they have had wherever they have been, attests that their performances: are . © worthy of public patronage, Those of our citizens who failed to attend last ¢vening, should by all means go tonight, which is positively the last apGeorge H. What Beautifal Goods! “Come with me to J. &{$=Rosenthal’s Dry Goods Store and see the new Spring and Summer st¥lés of Fancy and Dress Goods, which Jacob has just purchased at San Francisco, and you will be convinced that they . areindeed -beautiful.They have Checked and Striped Silks, Lace Shawls, Queen of Prugsia Shawls, Satins, (all colors) Dolly Varden and untrimmed) Grenadines, (all colors) and lots of other things that I can’t think of, and they are selling with her friend, and not only found them the prettiest goods in the city, but upon making her purchases she foundthat Mr. Rosenthal had sold her the goods twenty-five—per cent. cheaper than she could buy~them anywhere else in the county. New goods will-be arriving at J. & §S. Rosenthal's every day now,and Jacob leaves for New York to-day, where he will purchase an immense stock of Dry Goods for the firm. -. * Those New Arrivals. It’s nothing new for A. Goldsmith to receive goods daily by express, but he receives something new every time the stage comes in. The -establishment presents an appearance ‘unequalled by anyon the coast, as a visit to. the store will convince you. This morning Goldsmith will commence and sell goods so cheap that a poor woman will have an equal show with a rich one, The goods are charming. People in the country should improve the beautiful weather and come to the county seat to take a peep at Goldsmith’s stock, It will pay you for the trip. It is impossible to enumerate the fancy articles, dress goods, trimmings, satins and silks, in a manner that would give the faintest idea of their elegance. Mr. Goldsmith writes from San Francisco, that if the ladies in this county appreciate the gcods already sent as samples, he will double his stock and keep-as great a variety as any house in the State, besides selling them 20 per cent. cheaper than they do atthe Bay.. The reason he can do this, lies in the fact that his rent here is not one-third of that paid ‘below: :So if you want hew, rich and elegant goods, or the cheapest that are manufactured,go to Goldsmith’s. Champion Skating Race. On next Saturday evening, May 4th, there will be a skating race at pionship of Nevada county. Mr. Bullard will give a Gold Plimpton Roller Skate, to the person making the best time around the reom eleven times—half a mile. ‘The race will take place at 9.o’clock. The Judges selected are, J. H. Helm, L. W. Williams and E. P. Marselus. No extra charge will be made for admission. The skate can be seen in th show window of N. W. Knowlion’s jewelry store. 5t Good News. H. Levy, Commercial street, is now receiving a very large stock of Summer goods. New additions are being made every day. New style kid gloves $1 per pair. Gentlemen's furnishing goods, latest style Summer hats, and ladies dress goods. Everybody should go and see the new goods at Levy’s. ; 3t At this season the vegetable world takes _@ new lease of life; but to the sensitive and delicate members of the human family it is a time of danger and often of great suffering. The moisture which rises from: the earth and hangs suspended over it in the form of morning and evening mists and fogs, holds in solution, so to speak, the mephitic elements which produce fever and ague, remittent fevers, rheumatism, and many psinful nervous disturbances, and which aggravated dyspepsia, biliousness and all minor affections of the stomach and the bowels.
