The nine Republicans were Cameron of Wisconsin, Chilcott and Hill, the two Senators from Colorado, Hale of Maine, Jones of Nevada, Miller of California, Miiler of New York, and Saunders and Vaa Wyck. of Nebraska. All the Republican Senators of what may be called the far West favored the bill. There is also the scattering vote of three— one from Wisconsin, one from New England and one from. New York. This indicates the advance of the idea eastwards. All the Democratic Senators from the West ard most of those from the South voted for the bill.
