Bie Daily Transcript NEVADA OfTY. ‘CALs & Sunday, May 20, 1877. Va City Affairs. The new. city officers were daly sworn in on Thursday evening last, and assumed i duties of their va. Toys, offiges. George W. Smith was ‘elected President of the Board and N. P. Brown, Clerk for the ensuing year, Geo. EB. Turner, Jacob Nafftiger and Dan Marsh were appointed Btreet Commissioners, The Board ~~ pdjourned to nxt Tharediy evening, when the reports of the old officers will be received. Swveral matters were brought up and discussed by the new Board. Among the oumber was the sewer that runs onder Masonic Hall to Deer Creek, which will be attended to immediately, and also the advisability of requiring dramr mers to tuke out a city Jicense. Many” of our merchants complain thet their business is injured by. drummers coming here and selling goods by sample, and that as they are required to pay a license, that ‘gli should be served alike. Tue @omplaint the merchants muke is @iost certainly jost, and it is not fair to them when they have their money ‘invested im property and goods here, pay taxes and liceneos, that they shuuld be underbid by parties who bave no interest in common with us, and yet get the cream , @tthetrade. There are some classes of drummers that should be exempt, because they are a benefit to retail dealers, as it sdves thum the trouble and expense of going below for goods, when they cun buy them of the ugents as cheap as they could at the wholesale houses. Of course there oun be no distinction ade, and if an or@inance is passed it will include all. If a certain class of drummers, those who sell goods to thé lainey. of our Ddasiness houses can be cleaned out, it will bea good thing. The matter will be fuliy discussed and acted upon at the next meeting of the Board. Notwithstanding a great dea! of money has been expended on the. streets no: “during-the post year, tke city is out e of debt and we understand bas four ® or five hundred dollars in the Treas‘ary. Of course that amount will ” pot last very long as the expenses of the city for the next few months will eat it all up, and there will scarcely be anything going into the Treasury ——gntil the taxes come to be paid in the fall. We expect to be able to publish a full report of the financial s«ffairs of the city ufter the next meeting of the Bourd. : nat Murder. The Times of yesterday gives the following additional particulars of the “gaurder of Davis, near North San Juan: Considerable excitement waa created in our town on Sunduy evening lust, a little before durk, by the wnouncewent that Wm. Davis, a wood chopper, had beon found dead near his cabin, sitaated between the ranches of John Carey and Thomus. Reese, iv this township. The facts connected with the finding of the body are these: Willie Smith, a sun of Thos. G. Smith, who resides a mile or two distant from Davis’ cabin.was out on horseback hunting stock belonging to hia father. He had followed up tbe truil leading to . and past Davis’ cabin, and not finding Davis at home, he continued on for nearly » quarter of mile from Davis’ house when heanccidentally discovered the body of Davis lying on his right side, with bie hands extended towards the handle of a sav which was sticking in a block partially sawed through. When he gaw the body, young Smith thought Davia to be asleep, He rode up with the intention of interrogating Davis . fm regard to the object of bis visit to that place, and then discovered that Davis was dead. He immediately came to town and made the foregoing facts known. ; . Colfax Excursion, The price chatged for the moon_ fight excursion to Colfax, is $2 for single ti:kets, $3 50 for gentleman and lidy, and $1 50 for each addi* tlomal lady, This includes the Railtoad fyre both way», admiasion tu, the Ball and supper. Keep cool gentlemen and act with chutity towards euch other and you may be happy yet. Now Gravel Mining Raterprise. Tho Planet Gravel Mining Cumpany is vow duly organized and incorporated, and work commenced. The cluim is located in the rich gravel .region of Lowell Hill, six miles from Little York, in Nevadu county. This cl»im has been prospected by the Fowler boys, and thé gold dep sit discovered through » tunnel which was found to be too high for profit.ble use. They have deeded 229 acres of this rich claim to the Trustees of the company, who tiave divided the ~ stock,’ 50,000 sbares, 20,000 of which they propose to sell at fifty éenta each, to raise the sum of $10,000, for the purpose of runuing a tunnel into the centre of the claim, and place it in a’ dividend paying condition, In order to make the sharvs obtainable by persons of limited means, the trusiees have resolved to offer the following facilities to purchasers: ‘Ten cents of the price of each share -ig to be paid at once, and five cen s per share at the end of exch suc ceeding thirty dxys until fifty. cents per share shall be paid, when the stock thus paid for shall be issued to the purchaser, But in case the claim is put on a dividend paying babis before the whule price of each share is fequired, the unpaid part of the price of the shares will not be called for, but equnl dividends be awarded to all sbareholders, and it is now confidently believed by those beat acquainted with the condition of the claim that five instead of ten thousand dollars. will be enough to placethe claim in a paying condition, in which case the spares would cost the purchaser only twenty-five instead of fifty ceats, This cliim has not only been explored ‘by the Fowler boys as above stated, but is situated exactly 6, posite. and ‘below the “Swamp Angel," a gravel lodahen of immense wealth, aud paying rich at this time, All the circumstances considered, this enterprise presenta extraordinary inducements to purchasers of stock aud better assurances of success than most ‘enterprises of the kind. The officers of ‘the company are: EB. A. Tompkina, Pres; M. Byrne, Jr., Treas ; P.
