tbe State Prison—-one for horse
stealing and one for robbiug teamsters. At the time of the outbreak
Dalton was one of the mostferocious of
the rebelling prisoners. ‘ He is a tall
‘and heavily built man who fears
neither man, Lord nor Devil, and is
reckless as he is brave. The circumstances-of ‘bis exploite in Nevada
county are well known.-to° all: our
readers, For the trial yesterday it
was almost impossible to secure a

manifest at society banquets.
In this happy frame of mind the
members marched into the banqueting hall to find themselves surrounded by a profusion of festoowing and
floral boquets arranged with .consummate skill. The decorations reflected great credit on the generosity
as well as the-taste and skill of the
ladies composing the committee, Not
only were there a profusion of choice
garden flowers, but even the conservator.es had been robbed of their
/ most beautiful gems for the occasion. .
In addition to the many: boquets

choice meats, Salad,” fruits, pastry
and sweatmeats in profusion, all
contributed by the Chapter. Wines
were prohibited, but there was an
abundance of good tea and excellent
coffee, and none wept away thirsty
or regretting the innovation in this
particular.
After enjoying the repast until all
were satisfied, afew pleasant intpromptu speeches’ were made, in
which due credit was given to the
. ladies for their bounty in providing
for the occasion and for the skill
with which they had conducted all
of the exercises, and att. elveo’clock
the Patron ina short address brought
the banquet to aclose. In returning guests were presented with numerous eo from the decorations, and all went away feeling that
this was one of the best conducted

it had ever been their lot to participate in.
