NEVADA CITY.
SS -~ a]
LOCAL ITEMS.
e Concert. ,
oi ae Thursday evening of this week,
Phillip Phillips will give a concert at
the Congregational Church in this city.
He will be ‘worth hearing. The Richmond Whig, spéaking of his concert,
says: “As high as public expectation
had been raised in regard to Mr. Phillip Phillips as a vocalist, by the notices
of the British and American press, we
are not guilty of exaggeration when we
say that he more than metit last night,
on the occasion of his concert at Broad
street church. He has a sweetness
and compass of voice that make the
simplest song, when sung by him, brimfu. of melody. We advise every one
ot our readers never to miss an opportuaity cf hearing him, for it is not
oiten in a life time that sach a musical
treat comes in our Way.
Septenced.
By Mallen and Patrick Lanagan
were yesterday sentenced to four years
eich in the State Penitentiary for thea
crime of highway robbery. The former was tried. and convicted, and the
latter, an avtcomplice, pleaded guilty.
The crime was committed on Mill
street, near Bosworth’s corner, in the
town of Grass Valley. Immediately
after the robbery the parties who were
robbed followed Mullen and Lanagan
into town and pointed. them out to the
officers, They also recognized them at
the time of the robbery, and the testimony as to the identity was most pos~
itive. They will be taken to San
Quentin to-day. :
