bl he Baily Beanscript , . Very Jonlous. * The “Placer Herald’ has gat: ‘a terrible jeaious streak on because the Nevada County papers see fit to expatiste upon the merits of its own _ county, and show a ~ et and tor will take a trip up this way (we : % bélieve he bas evér been iv * this partofthe county in his life) -@wewill-dhowhim thatthe —stute-+ ments that have been made are trae, and vot half bas been told, fdr fear of being chatged with‘'too much puftery.” We were not aware before that the prosperity of our county was going on at the expense, of . The “Taion* says ‘‘we cannot see of what advantage it is to Piaver County for one of ita papers to decry Neveda County; 'wedo not see that the attempt to pull one county down’ helps in the least to build. up the other,’’ and then goes on to day, ‘we are not sure _ pat that Placer county bas almost as extensive “gravel deposits” as hws Nevads. The same so-called oldriver system exists in both counties. ‘We are glad that Placer bas some , of them. © Batin the manver of working and developing these deposits Nevadn is far in advance of Placer. Has Plicer a single gravel wine vn which the sum of two million of dollars bas been, spent iu development? Has Plaver a éingle mine ov which half that sua, or é quurter of it bas been spent? Yet that is about the figurés of the expenditures of the} North Bloomfield Company in Nevas da County. Moreover the Bloomfield Company are tuking out, such pay that their enormous ontlay is considered a good investment, Has Placer a gravel mine w ich is yielding from $2,000 to $3,000 per day as the Milton Company, at French Oorral, is now doing? Nevada county has other exievsive gravel workings which, we think, are abead in development of those of Placer, and we are pretty well acquainted with the territory of both couuties. The “Heruld’’ again asserts thatthe Nevada County quariz mines are no more extensive thin those of Placer, although the Nevada County mines ef that kiud have been known longer, and have been more thoroughly developed. Now, we grant that Placer County may have as many ledges as any couuty in the State; but ledges are not mines. It is developwent that makes the wine. The Rising Sun, near Colfax, Js about the only quartz mine io Placer, thut we kuow of, that is paying expenses and occasional dividends. “It has the goud fortune to be on about the sante range—that is having similar count:y rock—as the mines of Grass Valey. We would like to know if Placer has ever had a quartz mine that yielded two millfons of gold? Grass V.iley bus several that has done that well, and now has a miné, the Idaho, that will pay her nineiy-fuurth dividend on. Monday, the fourth of next June, should the world stand that long. We guess that in the mining Way, taking it all around, Nevada is sumewbat ahead of ita neigabor, Ia the matter of iron d posits, Nevada County is very ric.” ‘Tne aime belt of that kind of usefal met ‘tbat rans through Placer ix to be found in this County. ltis net worked, begause gold mines, of which we have so many, pay much butter. Tha above décision «i important, and the fullowing requiremenu's aod conditions result therefrom: First. The date of the beginning «nd origin of the title to w new lode cliim will be exact day on which it shall be first discovered by the uncovering «nd disclosing of the sume, Second, The recorded location notice (or certificate) should, ia sil cases, state the date’ on which the discovery. was made. Third. The time in which apoual expéudirures must be made will begin and end yearly én date of discovery, not ou the date of record, Fourth. The work of sinking the discovery shaft ten feet deep, or sovb portion of said work as sball be perfurmed ufter the date of discovery, may be accoanted ay a part, ora whole (as the cuse may be), of the first annual expenditure, Fifth, Claim’ located prior to January 1:t, 1872, ure not affected by thiz ruling. Toe law of Congress requiring un-. nual expenditures not“ having gone into operation until that date, claims located prior thereto were given a full year to do their assessment work; that isto say, that these cold titles may be represented at anytime in the year, between the first day of January and the dast day of the sucwoes December. aie > oe Started Up,The reduction, worka at Canada} Hill, erected by Crosby & Mitchell, were formully opeved yesterday.> A pleasant .compuny -wss assembled, aud to Miss Annie N .ffziger. was accorded the honor of blowing fhe whistle, She did it, as she dves everything, with lady-like grace, amid the cheers of the crowd, and the Everythiug moved off with perfect regulurity, under the guide of Professor Crosby, who has devoted so many years'to the problem of a cheap reduction of sulpburet ores. ‘To this city, there is an immense importance in this movement, for if rebellious ores of a low grade can be made available for profit to the miner and the mill wen, the hills about the city will prove to be as rich as any on the coast. By notice in anotber coluiin, it will be see: that Crosby 4 & Mitebell bave cl.sed business, and have trassferred all their right, title and interest in the works .t. Canida. We shall then have a -first-class establishment, prepared to. purchase and work all the ores this eity cap furnish. A Change.
