LOCAL ITEMS.
County Central Committee.
By a notice in to-day’s paper it will
be seen that.a meeting of the Republican County Central Cominitteois called
to meet at Judge Niles’ office, at the
“Court House in this city, on Saturday,
June 3d, at 2o0’clock p.m. The work
of the Committee is to calla County
Convention, and other important business will come up for consideration.—
The following are.the members of the
County Central Committee in the several townships:

Geo. A. Reynolds.
George A. Reynolds, an old resident
of Nevada county, has been long connected with the Lawrence Republican
Journal,’ Kansas. Reynolds, betore
the last Senatorial fight in Kansas
went over to the Democracy, and with~
drew from the Journal. He was quite
prominent in politics of both parties
in this county. Ia 1854 he was depus
ty Assessor under McUoy, and the next
year served as Deputy Sheriff under
“Boss” Wright. In September 1855,
he was elected to the State Legislature
as. a Know Nothing, having until that
time acted with the Democracy. In
~ Ransas he received the appointment of
Indian Agent as a Republican, and bes
came quite wealthy. He has taken a
prominent part in the politics of that
State. Many of the old residents of
Nevada will be pleased to learn of Rey.’
nolds, who left this county in 1856, im-~
mediately after his term as Representative expired.Improvements,
ore buildings are being erected and
improvements being made in this city
this Spring than-at any time in the
last seven years. The carpenters,paintets and other workmen have about all
they can attend to. The buildings de-~
stroyed by the late fire, on Pine street
are being replaced or repaired, many,
business houses are being painted and
improved, and a considerable amount
of work has been put en the residences.
Nevada is moré tively in business matters than for along time, and there is a
prospect for still further improvement.
Sunday School Anniversary. .
The Sabbath School Anniversary
of the Little York school is announced
to come off on the 4th of June at that
Place. Preparations are. being made
to make the occasion interesting to all
who attend. The exercises will consist of singing, reading in concert, an
address, recitations, etc. The Mite Society, an adjunct of the Sunday School,
had a gathering of the friends of education on last Thursday evening, and
beside having a good time, raised $44
50 for Sunday School purposes.
Baer Sh nder Sheriff McBrown yesterday
left for San Quentin, having in charge
Lanagan and Mallen who ure to serve
four years for highway robbery. The
county jail is now without a prisoner,
and we hope it will remain in that con
dition for some time,
