Sentence of Hidalgo. —
Yesterday morning at 10 o'clock

Hidalgo alias Muchacho, convicted
of assault with intent to commit rape
upon Auna E. Dillon, aged about
five years. The crime was committed on Sunday, January 14th, and
the defendant was indicted at the
and his trial was continued to the
May term. Judge Caldwell in passing sentence informed the defendant
that he had been convicted of the
most’ heinous ‘crime in the whole
catalogue, and that the evidence fully
warranted his conviction for a higher
offense. That he enticed.a child
aged abont five’ years into a lotely
cabin, and sent her little brother
away, after which the defendant not
only perpetrated bis crime, but communicated to the {child a loathsome

What He Thought. e7
The duy before Brady was taken to
San Quentin, the following conversation took place between him and the
jailor:
Brady—Say, Jailor, that Judge
sentenced me to San Quentin for feur
years, didn’t he? a
Jailor—You was sentenced for six
years.
Brady—Well, I’ve been trying to
convince. myself that it was only four
years. :
Jailor—Six years, sure.
Brady— Weil, now, don’t you think
looking at his wife?
Some persons had_ serious doubts
about the guilt of Brady, but after
the above di:logue, we rather guess
their doubts must be removed.

Ben Reed, who was’ sentenced to
the State’s Prison forthe killing of
Chris. Gunnison in this city, is now
confined in the prison hospital, and’
the physician is of the opinion that
he will not live long at that place.
We understand a petition will be circulated soon for signatures, asking
Governor Booth to pardon Reed.
Skating Rink.
The Skating Rink will be open to
night as usual. On Saturday evenings the best skaters are always on
hand, and those who do not participate appear to enjoy themselves in
witnessing the performances, as well
as those on the rollers. There will
be lots of fun to-night, and we presume the place will be crowded.

Provide Against Danger.
At this season all the great lines of travel
tegin to swarm with human beings intent
on business or pleasure. Are these moving
multitudes aware of the danger which ensues from drinking different varieties of
water and breathing atmospheres to which
their lungs are unaccustomed? Do they realize how important it isto be pre-urmed
with an antidote that will defeud their systems from the evil consequences of such
changes and from all ailments and disturb.
ances which arise frum the miasma so
plentitully evolved from the soil at this period of the year? Such an antidote—certain
imite protective operation and free from
everything objectionable in its composition
and flavor—has been fortwenty years before
the world. No instance ‘can be adduced,
during that period, in which Hostetter’s
Stomach Bitters has failedasan acclimating
medicine, or as apreventive of the bodily
ills to which the undefended system is liable
in unhealthy localities.
A good appetite, perfect digestion,a vigoras condition of the nervous system, funcional regular.ty, and a pure and active circulaiton, are the elements of health, and
these signal blessings may be secured and
perpetuated by the use of this powerful, yet
harmless, vegetable tonic. Such is tbe experience of all who have ever taken it as@
safeguard against the diseases which debility, irregularity and a morbid condition of
the selids and fluids of the body are sure to
invite.
