The little baby lions, of which there are seven, are great curiosities, and attract thie ladies and children. The collection of wild beasts is large, and the animals and cxges are in most splendid condition, and we congratnlute Mr. Queen for Wintering over in California. Tbe circus department, which always. hada tendency to draw, i, one of the most. perfeetly appointed and richly dressed shows that hds'ever uppeared in this city. The riding:-of Jameg. Robinson, Charles Fizh, Miss Mollie Brown, and Romeo Sebastian bave creuted a circus enthusiasm that was never before wituessed on this coast. The’ other acts, many of which were’ entirely new to us, bave an acceptable freshness that is pleasant to conteniplate. — Mra -has—exhibi most excellent judgment in the selection: of his double troop of artists, and it certainly seems to us that he has not left auytbing undone that experience could sugyest and money purchase to make his establishment the finest ard best. A Chinaman was on. trial in the County Court, yesterday, charged with burglary at Cherokee. The franchise case uf the Boca Lumber Co., was argued yesterday afternoon before the Board of Supervisors. Senator Bright, who represented Indianain the United States Senate, at the breaking out of the civil war, was a man_of great popularity at one time among the people of that State. Soon after the beginning of thé war, a letter which be addressed to’ Jeff. Davis, as Presidetit of the Confederaey, recommending a young: friend tothe kind consideration of Davis came to light; and for writing this seat in the Senate by a vote of that body. “This ended his political career, which up to that time, had been full of prowise. It-has been said that Bright had no thonght of wrong purpose when he wrote that letter; that it was a mere act’of kindness to a young friend; and that it. was written in March before the war had commenced.
