Empire Foundry, to satisfy a fine
imposed by Judge , jawyer, in the
United States Circuit "Gourt, upon
Richard Hoskin, the defendant in
the suit of Fisher ve. Hoskin, The
machinery sold was what is known
as the engine lathe, The -purchaser
was an agent of Joshua Hendy of
Sar Francisco,who accompanied Mr,
Drew on his visit to this city. The
‘lathe brought $286, and the fine and
costs amounted to $281. As has
been stated, George A. Gates of this
city,a son-in-law of Richard Hoskin,
claims to own all the interest that
the latter held in the Empire Foundry. Mr. Gates had notified the
Marshal of this claim, and the
Marshal therefore demanded and received au idemnity bond from the

Subsequent to the sale yesterday Mr.
Gates began, in the Superior Court
of this county, an action for conversion, against M. M. Drew, the U.S.
Marshal, alleging the value of the
lathe sold by the Marshal to be $1,000, and claiming damages in that
amount.
