. Bernda Brily Branseript . : THURSDAY MEORNING, MAY 26th. City and County Official Press ROYALTY IN. Mexico.-~A recent telegram informs us that the Archduke MaxiMillian has sailed for his new-empire. Dispatches received at the same time state that —~by ‘ain ‘almost unanimous vote a resolution waa adopted in the House of Representa~ . tives calling for the correspondence between the French Government and our own, in re“gard to thie Mexican question. ~~ What light these papers may throw upon the subject, we know not, nor do we think that it is necessary for our Government to take any iinmediate action in regard to the matter. It is probable that years will elapse ‘before the people of Mexico become the subJocts of the despotism set up in their midet by the French monarch. A ruler, diffuring fron themin raceé-and language, totally uns acquainted with their character, will, in all *. probability, not make much headway in his ‘ offorta to bring that people under bis rule. In accepting the. Mexican ‘crown, Maximillian has received a quarrel us well a8 terris tory. Let the new ,gnade monarch enjoy the pleasures ‘of royalty for short—season, the“day—of-retribution will s00n come, The French Emperor will yet see the purple robes, which he insists in upon flaunting in the faces of liberty-loving Americans purged with blood. The Govvernment cannot, and -will not-tulerate the disregard of the Mexican nationality shown inthe estatlshment of this empire. We hope sovn to see the rebellion so far wenkened na to allow a large army to be spared from the field, Our navy has been _augmented by veasela of war superior to any upon the sea, When the necessity for the blockade of the southern ports is pat, we hope the attention. of the nation will. be directed.to the new Emperor and hia backers. Should we-permit this outrage upon a neighboring Nation, contrary av it is, to our wellestablished doctrines it will remain furever a blot upon our country.
