A large number of Nevada City and Grass Valley cricket players and admirers of the game had a meet at Glenbrook Park day before yesterday.. Picked elevens played a game which resulted in.a score of 40 to 41 for one innings to eachside. A meetirg was then -held.for the purpose of organizing.a county club with which to enterthefield for the state championship Nearly-a score of gentlemen from the two towns signed the roll on the spot. Tully, one of the principal owners of the Omega hydraulic mine, came in from Stockton. The big spur-wheel of the pumping . machinery at the Nevada City mine) broke Sunday, and the men working! in the lower levels were put at work in . the upper levels till the damage can . be repaired. It will be several days . before a new wheel can be put in. Alf. Tregidgo, Superintendent of the Washington mine in Maybert district, . passed through town yesterday on his . way to Towles’ Mill. The company . are making arrangements to at once . eenstruct a twenty stamp mill, also hoisting and pumping machinery. . They expect to have these improve. ments completed by September Ist. . The drain tunnel is in nearly 500 feet. The shaftis down 115 feet, which takes . it about 75 feet below the tunnel. The ledge average about 414 feet in thick. ness, is of good grade, and there is be. lieved to be enough pay ore in sight to . keep ‘the mill going ten. months. . The Crown Point mine of Grass Val . ley has been offered for sale in Lon-. don, England. The scheme is to! divide the stock into 160,000 shares at . £1 each. The party who seeks ‘to! make the sale is willing to take £50,. 000 or £70,000 in stock,as the directors . may desire. The-. prospectus says: . “This (present profit)’could be easily . trebled, as the mine can support a 20-7 stamp mill without crowding. -The . extra 20 stamps will, thereforé, it is . estimated, increase the atinual profits te over £70,000."" _ . ste ; A Suicidal Chinaman. .
