We do not know of any animal so small as this one must have been, that could eat thirty-four chickens before its voracious appetite was satiated. Can anybody enlighten us? The Alaska Quartz Lode. This lode is located very near Pike City, in Sierra county. It was located by Messrs. Phillips, Stewart and others about four years ago, and after prospecting awhile they were fortunate enough to strike paying quartz, The have sunk down on the lode for a distance of two hundred feet, meeting with the most favorable resulta.
