The Gilroy Leader bas the follow‘ing notice of the virtue of this tree dn the care of rheumatism: The vir ‘tue‘of the eucalyptus, as a rewedy fer rheumatism, was last week tested by one of our citizens, Mr. J. 8. Woolsey, with satisfactory results. After several days of intense suffering and pain, and nights passed with-, out sleep, the article in the Leader, gome weeks since in regard to the medicinal qualities of the eucalyptus . -came-to his mind and he resolved to try it, The first application, gave him almost instant relief, and he was able to get a good night’s sleep and . ~~rest; and the following day was able to_walk without a cane. On the following night he applied itagain, and the second ‘day_a perfect cure had. ‘been affected. He inform us that he prepared the leaves by first putting them in an oven and thoroughly drying them, then-took them out and pulverized them, into a fine powder,of which he made a’ poultice with hot water, and bound this to the affected parts. Murtin & Co., of San Francisco, the contractors for building tne bridges and trestling, havea large ferce of carpenters ‘at work upow the timbers for this piece of trestiing, which will be put up io a couple ut weeks. They will then cemmence the traming of timbers for the Bear river bridge. ‘The carpenters are superintended by Mr. Kingsbury, an experienced _ bridge builder, uuder whose immediate supervision much-of this-kind of wotk was done on the Central Pacific -Railroai. The sizeof the timbers used in the trestling at Gabel’s, gives evidence that tnis kind of work on the road will be very strongand durable.
