The Daily Granseript weVADA CETY, OAl~ — Saturday, May 26, 1877. Se et ROI AIEEE AT ET TTR Sacramenté vs. San Francisco. One of our mefchants informed us esterday that be coull bay goods a his line from 10 to 20° per cent. crame than~ he could in San Francisco. There are as large dealers in the former'place asin the latter, but of course not so ‘many of them. Yet the Sucramento merchants ‘can, and—do—sel—everything cheaper, because they are not compelled to pay such enormous rents, and other expenses, as the wholesale merchants ere at the Bay. The current id tarning towards Sacramento and ino-time we believe they can get the bulk of the trade of this county if they pursue the proper course, They should advertise liberally in the papers here, and through this medinm ‘they can ac—___—eomplish-almostas much as by-sending up agents. The merchants generally are more inclined to favor Sacramento than San. Francisco, and they should take advantage of this *\ feehing and offer our merchants every iuducement they can. We feel confident that not ove in ten of thew trade at Sacramento now, simply because they know nothing‘ ubout. them, and it would seem that wholesale dealers at Sacramento, in the past, intended to’ keep jast as qiiei about the trade as .possible. Now as our merchants are looking towards Sacramento the merchants there . , should wake up and catch all the trade they can from this section. We have conversed with a number of]. men who trade at Sacramento now, and they infoim,us that_ the inducements offered. there: are. fur gréater than they have received at the Bay. Especial!} is this the case in the line of hardware, crockery, groceries and provisions, afid it may be so in other classes of goods, although we oannot spenk as intelligently about it as we cau of those we specify. We saw @ comparison. made the other day between two bills of goods, of the very same kind and brand, one4 of which was purchased at Snacramento and the-otber at Sag Frapcisco, and they showed a difference in price of 20 pervent. in favor of Sacramento, This isa very important matter to us, because if onr merchants are enabled to make such a great saving as this, the people generally are sure to receive the.r share of it in buying-at-retail— Our object iu writing this article is to call the attention of retail deslers in this county to the fact that they are really doing an injustice to themselves iu buying goods at the Bay, when the same kind can be purchased so much cheaper at bacr mento,. Those who do not buy at the latter place will do well to give the mercbants there one trial, and we will guarantee that they willbe very much surprised to see the great difference in prices. a Ee man fare ™ Tom Thumb Coming. Geo, Peck, Esq., agent of the Tom Thumb party, arrived in this city yesterday, to muke arrangements for. the appearance of the company in this —vity on the 5th of June. Many of onr people have seen-the little Goneral, his wife. Minnie Warren and Major Newell, and they will not fail to go and sve theiu again. They are now on their way from the Kast where they hive met with immpnse wuecess. An Eastern paper, speaking of them says: The little Geueral, bis wife and ‘sister, gave two exhibitions to crowded bonuses, Just as usual, they came, they saw, and they conquered. They have changed lite in appearance in the last few years; they betray all the old characteris: ties of features, form cud performance, and tbe enthusiasm they created, especially auoug the litde ones, was @ genuine tribute not only to themselves us curivsities, bat as well to their abilities as performers. The entire programme was well received; and if he who makes ove lau.b isa benefactor, nove sre greater benefactors than General Tnumb and his troupe, They give an entertainment pleasing and free from objectionable features, and in this aeusution age this datter can be said of few traveling entertainments.
