hie Daily Transeript, NEVADA CITY, CALIFORMA. Ripck News. —_-—_——— County—A Fearfal Outrage Perpe anne 6 ——————— Thursday. May 27th, 1880. Fxhamation of Chinese Corpses. The State Legislature of 1878 pass‘ed a law making it necessary for Chinese to procuré a permit at a cost of ten dollars Wefore exhuming © the bones of any fellow-countryman for . . the purpose of shipping the saite to the Flowery Kingdom. A Mongo. ~ Jian was recently arrested af San _.F rantisco-for failing to observé~ the ~~ Taw, and was arrested and fined "$50. -He appealed ta the Cireuit Court, which has sustained the decision, declaring the act constitutional. ‘Here is a pointer forthe authorities of Nevada City.. The Chinesequarters of . “the Boulder street « cemetery present a disgustit:g scene, Many of the bodies intétted there have subsequently béen exhumed, the bones scraped ~ “and sent away, and all the hideous relics in the way of flesh, coffirs cues, clothing, etc., left on ‘the ground. Last year some of the ~ ghouls were detected at’ this work, and fined for committing a nuisance. Under the anti-exhumation act, til! now supposed to be a_ dead-lctter law, they could have been more se: ¥erely wile with, oe “4 The Banner Mine. Although about 40,000 shares of the reagntly. incorporated Banner: quartz mine of this distrizt have been disposed of in the East, the principal owners heré are now. making an effort to withdraw the property from that market, and recommence work on the claim with the aid of local capital alone, and have instructed the New York ayent to recover the stock already issued if it ean be accomplished: by paying a reasonable bgpus. A little experience has shown that the laws of New York, under which the incov. f “poration was effected, are not so wel. calculated for speedy and effective operations as those of this State; furthermore, the Bartuer has such a good reputation thas there “Sire several moneyed mén in the Vieinity who are anxious to take hold of it with their neighbors. A Mistaken Estimate. The Stock Exchange wit, moralizes thus: The Nevada TRANS¢arPr tells how a cow walked into one of the principal hotels of that county, no ddubt mistaking thd hostelrie for a corral, Jt is astomehing what mistakes can be teade in the eatiinate. of hotels, The cow’s error was more natura’, however, than the mistake ‘of the British tourist whe invariably. deposits his brickballasted trunk at the Palace Hotel where Count Smith gets the heft ofthe bogus baggage in two minutes, end fires out the owner in one, ER ee South idahe. This mine is located about 300 yards south-east of the Idaho, and a. shaft has been sunk which strikes the ledge at adistance of 75 feet from, the surface. The ledge is about 7 or 5 feet in thickness, and carries gold and penty of ‘sulphurets. The mine is owned by Grass Valley and San Francisco parties, and’ it is understoad that a contract wiil soon be let to sink the shaft 100 feet déeper and crosscut at that point through the ledge. Theowners of the mine think they have a good property: in ~ the South Idaho.— Union. Naller Fiat Clean-up. The Sailor Flat Company, whose hydraulic mine is at B.ue Teat, came to town yesterday with $10,009 worth of bullion. ‘Tiis Wasa partial clean-up after about 4359 hours’ run ou top dirt with t,o monitors. Tle company has not yet worked any of the bed-rock in its claim, and ‘is said to havg the richest top dirt to be found anywheres in the State excepting that around Coumbia Hill, this county. ‘ win Tranapert me Thunderer: This is from the Bee of Tusaday; _A note received to-day from Gulonel Creed Haymond, who left for the __ East yesterday, says that John F. Kidder, Stipzriutendent of the Nevada Couuty Natfyw Gauge Railtoad, will place « thit ca¥ at the disposal of the City Guard ja order that they may-takethe Gotling gun ———4eNevada City. 2 trated by a Wife-beater. A-lady from Marysyitle reached our town last week with a largestock . of millinery goods whieh she disposed of at auction. She did not strike a bonanza here: : A free tight took .place in our tuwn the other day wherein one of our merchauts gave a terrible ‘m auling toa woed-ehopper: I could not obtain the particulara. The old ‘Tudge has rigged himself up 4 cosy little sanétuth in his building nearly opposite his brick law office. He will dispense legal matters from th» old office and give the people “gods” from the other. ‘The pluck and energy of the olf geutleman is astonishing to witness, I visited his, new printing office teday and saw.over six columns of new advertisements in type and several more on the hook. A writer whose productions appear semi-dccasionally in’ your éetemporary over the signature of U. C, complains that Judge Stidger has uot offered’a situation in the ‘Times . P. Stidger, Exgq., who will give us a lively paper. ‘The first issue will be about the first Saturday id June. It willbe out and removed from the second story of south sidé of Man street formerly kept as assioon by ©. Koch. It makes a nice otlice.
