letter from the diice of the Surveyor Genpervisors of this county that_ his deputy

for the perpese of fixing the boundary line
between this county and Placer. So it sppers that the Supervisors ef Placer are determined to force the question to issue regardless of ag understan@ing which they
had at therr-4ate conferente. with the Board
of thie cuunty, and the representative of
the Serveypt General is a willing patty-to
the transaction. The .solleretanding between the representatives of the two counties was that the fine shenld be rug in August, and that if either party should conclude
te take any other course the other should be
notified. The Supervisors of Placec applied
to the Deputy State Surveyer—Hougliton
being in. the East. That officer appointed
w@ deputy to ren the line, and all arrangeanents were pertented before a word of the
propesed action was comntunicated to this
couaty. Immediately following thie, another letter came, mentioning next Friday

in the valleys, but the farmers of ‘these lu
calities, where grain ripeos earlier than ia
the mountains, have sustained great losses
leveled. te . the ground by the weight of
water. Iu some localities the injury is so
great that reaping will have te be done
with sythes, the grain being too badly broken to admit of the use @f reuping machives.
Hay which was eat and left upon the greund

sale. In many places the farmers hive

theown the jay into stacks as is common in
the East, thus preventing great injury from
the rains, In the mouatains the late storm
bas done no injury ; on the contrary, it has
been beneficial. The crops of hay and
grain are not far enough advanced to be
injured, and maliy fielde that would not have
been worth harvesting, have taken a vigorous start and bid fair to yield handsome
crops. The hydraulic miners have also
been greatly benefitted by the abundant
Leupply of water and will: be able to eentinue work almost uatil the next winters’

and climate is shown by the effects of the’
present sterm throughout the State. The
Ccedings of Placer in thie matter, nor be ernps of the valley may be destroyed, but
dragooued by the Surveyor General.
It is impossible te make a survey of. the
line at this season of the year. The snow
all aleng the line, from the head waters
of Bear tiver to the State line, the only
part of the boundacy in dispute, is from fire .

not establish aaything. The people of this
county desire to have the boundary question
permanently settled. They want a fair survey and will be satisfied with nothing less.
