Nar ANE NN AN RR a RR RNR HEIR ot MLA NOIR AAP OA MTIMC TH SURO CRO OLB i NE RRB MAMET ERT aes a eas . aia rs See ‘THe Bounpany Line.—A few days letter from the diice of the Surveyor Genpervisors of this county that_ his deputy wrould be Sn.Bege Wally on Eriday. ort for the perpese of fixing the boundary line between this county and Placer. So it sppers that the Supervisors ef Placer are determined to force the question to issue regardless of ag understan@ing which they had at therr-4ate conferente. with the Board of thie cuunty, and the representative of the Serveypt General is a willing patty-to the transaction. The .solleretanding between the representatives of the two counties was that the fine shenld be rug in August, and that if either party should conclude te take any other course the other should be notified. The Supervisors of Placec applied to the Deputy State Surveyer—Hougliton being in. the East. That officer appointed w@ deputy to ren the line, and all arrangeanents were pertented before a word of the propesed action was comntunicated to this couaty. Immediately following thie, another letter came, mentioning next Friday ‘as thedsy. The Supervisers of this county will neither submit te the dishonest pro. ithin the men = . The fall ae indicated by ‘office of the South Yuba Canal Company is 4.36. inches.. This is heavier than. the fal) in the valleys, but the farmers of ‘these lu calities, where grain ripeos earlier than ia the mountains, have sustained great losses leveled. te . the ground by the weight of water. Iu some localities the injury is so great that reaping will have te be done with sythes, the grain being too badly broken to admit of the use @f reuping machives. Hay which was eat and left upon the greund te eure before the rains, is entirely destroyed or se blackened as to greatly injure its sale. In many places the farmers hive mienrd ¥s theown the jay into stacks as is common in the East, thus preventing great injury from the rains, In the mouatains the late storm bas done no injury ; on the contrary, it has been beneficial. The crops of hay and grain are not far enough advanced to be injured, and maliy fielde that would not have been worth harvesting, have taken a vigorous start and bid fair to yield handsome crops. The hydraulic miners have also been greatly benefitted by the abundant Leupply of water and will: be able to eentinue work almost uatil the next winters’ storm set im. The great diversity of. svil and climate is shown by the effects of the’ present sterm throughout the State. The Ccedings of Placer in thie matter, nor be ernps of the valley may be destroyed, but dragooued by the Surveyor General. It is impossible te make a survey of. the line at this season of the year. The snow all aleng the line, from the head waters of Bear tiver to the State line, the only part of the boundacy in dispute, is from fire . to twenty feet deap. ‘The etreams are high and évéry ravine so full of water that it is . them. At’ this Sedsvn— of the —year—the} the mountains will yield in abundanes.— The fertile lands of the foot-hille are gradually being occupied and cultivated, and they will soon becom the best farming lands in the State. A ride through the Hower_part-ofthis county will satisfy“any one that no better lands for farms ean be found anywhere. sy eourve of-Bear river cannot be determined. . 64 gleam of light has recently been thrown The sargey cannot be made. Men who are familiar with tke ground to be goue over'know this well.” "The partive might go}# young man calling himself Charles H. there and rua aa imaginary hne but it will not establish aaything. The people of this county desire to have the boundary question permanently settled. They want a fair survey and will be satisfied with nothing less. Let thé Surveyor General wait uitil such a thing is practicable aud the Supervisors of this, couaty will ve eatisiied. If he dues otherwise, fer the purpese of establishing a line, bis euevey will be as worthless as se much blaak paper. Rerouwes:—D. 0. The anathema runs in Royo phere gang with the upon the mysterious murder of Dr. Burdell, at New York, in 1857, by the confession of Golden, while under arrest in Newburyport Massachusetts, and in jail. It appears that he was selected to be her agent in killing Burdell, but rejected a knife given him by the woman, Mrs. Cunningham, for that purposé, and escorted one of her daughters to the theater. On their returp, at balfpastone, he noticed the smoky smell in the street ;.met Mrs. Cunningham with & napkin stained with blood ; saw Snodgrass in his room, the bosom of his shirt stained with bleed; as he said from the nose bleed, and went to bed feeling ‘that the murder had beef committed. Next morning Mrs. Cunaingham gave him nine hundred dollars and told him to leave the country, Which he did. The woman, whu got clear, is said to be now residing somewhere in California.— Several years sivce she was recognized in wretch, whose heart wes -blyek enough to permit him, entered thé little inclosure set apart in Laurel Grove Cemetery for the Yankee gone to hell’.
