The action of the Democracy in nominating Sssigial Silt aroused the Republier efforts. to settle the matter between was called and 102 Repitblicans ‘were present. G. 8. 8, _Getchell having “withdrawn, ¢he fight was between L. Nihell and Chas. Cornell. The ballot stood, Nihell 62, Cornell 89, and the former Was declared the unanimous choice of the meeting. Notwithstanding this, there was some dissatisfaction which ‘could not be allayed, and for City Marshal there was some scratching. The friends of both parties were in earnest, and in the contest there was @ new element, namely the colored vote. The enforcement of the Fifteenth Athetidmeat did not keep Democrats from the polls,but on the contrary made them ‘olicitous of colored men’s votes. The total vote polled was 429. Yesterday a Chinese merchant brought to the Bank of Nevada County several lots of dust “which he had been purchasing, and among them was a ‘ot of bogus dust that might deceive any other than an expert, but it was detected by the officers of the Bank atsight.
