He treated the subject under two heads: Plant Life, or Botany; and Animal Life, or Zoology. He thought the subject hud been much neglected. He wanted the pupils to be ready to exterminate the dest-uctive vermin which we may soon expect to be upon us here in California. © Institute adjourned till 1:30. A Wife’s Devotion. Charleton's wife has displayed for her husband a devotion which is remarkable, ever since his arrest and imprisonment for the murder of Smith. ‘She has been in this city tor several months awaiting the day of trial, and visiting him in the Jail almost daily.
