The Mo-hawk is located near Gold Fiat and was for-.} i . COR. OF COMMERCIAL & PINE STREETS. : merly known as the Stede ledge. It was _ worked for some time and nbandoned. The present enterprising company then obtained. it and gave it the name it now bears. They expended about five thousand~dollars be‘fore the ledge was found, the expense being increased by a number of accidents during «the last rainy season. ‘They at last struck the ledge bélow the surface water and found itrich, beyund their expectations and quite large. Within the past three months they have taken out two hundred tons of excellent rock, and the ledge appears to be inex: haustible. When the new mill is completed this mine will rank among the best in the county. The planks were removed from the street, and the men dug down to the pipes, but.no leak could be found. At last they concluded to examine the Masonic Hall. On approaching the door of thé Hall ‘ the olfuctories of the party were saluted with a stunning volume of gas. On opening the Hall it was found that twelve burners of }. of the chandelier had been left open since the meeting of the Sune of Temperance on Baturday night. Eighteen hundred feet of _ gaabad escaped. Had the Hall been opened at night and the gas brought in contact with flame, the probubilities are that the building would have been blown to pieces. The gus must have been turned off and thea turned on at the metre, and this could not have vecurred except through gross carelessness. THe Witi.ew Vatcey LepGe —A large amount of rock has been taken from the Willow Valleyi-dge, and a number of teams were employed hauling quartz to Kidd’s mill on Saturdxy last.
