Fights LOCAL AFFAIRS. GrizzLv. Ringe.—On Grizzly Ridge, a short distance from Columbia Hill, @ large amount of prospecting has been done in the past four years. Upon this ridge are eer. eral ledges running paraitel. We havea fi cinity describing some of the claims. The Cowet is froar3 to5 teet wide and the shaft is sunk to the depth of 30 or 40 feet. Some The quartz trom the shaft has\.not been tested. This company owns two thousand feet. The next claim in order is the famed Hubbard ledge. Some splendid’ rock was taken frem a small shaft: on the top of the . ridge. A larger,.shaft was then sunk with flattering prospects. The company then started « tunnel, in expectation of tapping the vein one hundred aid seventy-five feet below the. surface, but in this they were disappointed. They ran some 400 feet, and becoming discouraged, sold out. The tunnel isrunoing with the dip of the ledge, and reached it. Parties have now got control of: the work who are determined to push it further. The tunnel is one of the finest in this county, and many think the ledge will be found by running it fifty feet further. A little north uf the Hubbard is Eureka ledge, uow the exciting topic. It was discovered more thana year ago and has since been worked un constautly.-When Jocated—it was from three to tour feet thick. At the poiut where the tunnel taps it, it is fifteen feet wide, The ownere have on the surface between 150 and 200 tons of rvék, all of which prospects well. Some.of the reck is fabulously rich, being more than one-third free gold. Hawley. & Bros. are now erecting ateu stamp mill, and a8 seon a8 if 18 completed rock frot the Eureka and other ledges will be tested. Themillisto havea ‘ hurdy-gurdy” wheel, with a pressure of four hundred feet, and is to be supplied with the Crall waltzing pan. A short distance from the Eureka is the Bucklin ledge, frum which exvellent prospects have been tuken. Average rock worked in a-hand mortar yielded two cents to the paynd. Many other cluime in the vicinity are being prospected, and excellent indicatiens are found. The great distance from this locality to quartz wills and the want of money with prospectors has prevented mill tests frow being ‘made, but as soon as a mill is completed upen the ground tests will be made, and if there is anything in indications, Grizzly tidge will become one of the richest quartz districts in the county. GAMBLEkS ARRESTED.—Two ‘‘sports’’. from the celestial) quarter of the ‘town, named respectively Sing We and Wow Too, were yesterday arrested by-Marshal Cornell, . for keeping a gambling house. The Chinese are passionately found of gambling, and often rob one another.
