H. Osborn, presents a splendid racing programme for Saturday next. The first race, which will eome off precisely at half past 2 o’clock, P. M., says the Grass Valley Union, will be a half mile dash for $400, between Gilman’s mare “Sue,” and Evans’ horse, “Wabash ;” the next will be a trotting race; mile heats, for $100, between McCue’s bay gelding, “Charley Crocker,” and McPeak’s gray gelding, “Taylor,” the latter to go to har, ness, the former to go with his mate, “Kelly.” The third will be a match race against time for $200; the wages being between John Roys and J. 8. McCue.— McCue is to drive four of his livery horses, all hitched, as a four horse team, one mile, inside of 3:40. This promises to be a gala racing day at the Glenbrook Park. Entrance to the track only fifty cents. Narrow. Escare.—On last Sunday night, as John T. Morgan, of North San Juan, was returning home from Mazanita Hill, with his wife-and-four children, in a buggy, the fore wheels of the vehicle went down into a gully in the road and Mr. Morgan was thrown over the dash. The team started at full speed down a steep grade. The smallest child also fell over the dash and. over a bridge in the road, a distance of five or six feet. Mrs. Morgan endeavored to get the lines, but could not reach them, when with great coolness she put the childrén out at'the rear of the ve hiele, and afterwards jumped out herself. She received a severe but not serious bruise in the face. Luckily the whole party escaped without serious injury. The team ran a mile or two--into town, and brought up without doing much damage. CHEAP TRAVELING.—At no time do we remember of such inducements being offered’ to the traveling public as at the present. Persons from the Bay-or the Valley, who have business, or who wish to enjoy themselves for a time, inhaling our pure mountain air, can take the cars of the Pacific railroad at Sacramento to Colfax, thence by the Telegraph line of stages to this city, for $5.50. Latta’s stage will then convey them to Washington for fifty cents, making $6 for the entire trip. We would advise all who desire to visit the upper part of our county, to take ‘advantage of the low fare while the opportunity offers. Fourtn or Juty—We have heard considerable talk on the streets about a Fourth of July celebration, and it is none too soon to talk about-the matter. Heretofore our citizens have delayel until a week or two before the time and our celebrations have been gotten up in a hurry. early and have a good one. Winp.—Yesterday morning we were visited with gusts of San Francisco weather. The air was so clouded with dust as to almost blind pedestrians ; bandboxes were swept away from the front of dry goods stores and sent tumbling along the streets ; hats were lifted and carried off on the “wings of the wind,” greatly to the disgust of their owners, and old Boreas kicked up the mischief generally.— The wind only lasted long enough for one ‘morning an hombre was arrested by Offi. cer Scott, for drunkenness and disorderly conduct. ResuMED OPERATIONS.—The Granite Tunnel Company, at Birchville,. has resumed operations, after a month of delay in repairing and fitting up.
