He . “ was extensively engaged in mining, and. ig worth about $30,000. At first Chinamen were suspected, but no satisfactory: evidence could be obtained. Ladd after wards sold his ranch and other property’ and started for the States, but was arrest. edin Sam Francisco upon the charge of. the robbery and brought back for trial.— The evidence was entirely circumstantial. The purses found upon Ladd were identified by Adams; but in defense it was shown that purses used to keep gold dust were thrown into a drawer in the house and might hdve been obtained from this place by Ladd. There were othercircumstances, many of which were explained.—_ The tridl was attended by a large number of persons from Rough and Ready, the Court room being crowded during its continuance, The case was given to the jury about 10 o’clock, P. M., and in a very few moments they returned with a verdict of “not guilty.” © Rich CLEAN Up.—Stidger, Clay & Evans, whose claims are located in Birchville District, Bridgeport ‘Township, are taking out large quantities of gold. At their last clean up they took out $19,700. The lead which was two hundred feet wide, has spread out to three hundred since they opened on it, and on the bed rock the gravel prospects ten cents to the pan. This company has been at work on the rich cement channel with very large pay for several months, and they have a sure thing on a great fortune. A day or two since they cleaned yp five boxes and ‘took out $5,000, and it is thought the next yield will amount to $25,000 Goop CLEAN vuP.—The San Joaquin Compaxy at Birchville, cleaned up last week, after a run of two weeks. ‘There are twelve stockholders, and after the last run the company declared a dividend of three hundred dollars to the share.
