TOTHE Orricers orTne SoLprexs’ Arp
SocreTies, NEvADA CousTY.—I am about.
making a rapid tour through your county,
. for the purpose of saving such Societies as
may be languishing and in need of assistance.
We hope and believe the war is nearly Pa
ended. But the hospitals are full of men,
sick and wounded, who must be carefl for
at least six months after the last battle: is
fought. The funds of, the United Statesd con. or COMMERCIAL & PINE’ ‘wtteers.
. Sanitary Commission are expended with the
most studious regard to strict economy ; the
expenses of distribution having never yet
reached five per cent. of the amount contrib-.
uted. But our supplies are rusining low
‘and there is yet pressing need of Saiitary.
work. I do not propose to visit any Socie.
ties where it may not be really necessary or
profitable to do so.
Officers of Societies who feel that a day or
~ an evening spent with them would be of
material advantage, can confer with me, by
letter or otherwise, at Grass: Valley on Sat.
urday, May 6th, or at Nevada city, Monday,
May 8th. J. H. Cuapin,

Sacramento, May Ist, 1865.
_ JuLivs Dreiruss has just had completed
a magnificent bread wagon— the prettiest
one we have seen for a long time. Itis
intended tor summer use and his patrons will
new be furnished with ni¢e hot bread every
morning for breakfast from as neat a vehicleas ever run the streets of Nevada, and
from the hands of as accommodating a driver as can be found anywhere.
Tug Monawk.—Some time since we noticed the fact the Mohawk company, whose
claims are located on Gold Flat had struck
their ledge. De Witt Tisdale yesterday
showed us some magnificent specimens of
rock taken from the lead. They were lit,
erally filled with oro. The company now
have a ledge of one and a half feet thick and
about eighty tons of splendid rock upon the
top of the ground. We are informed that
_ the comnany will commence crushing next
week. A large amount of money has been
expended in prospecting this claim and we
have no doubt that it will prove to be a
: profitable mine.
PaRapise yeas painting
was exhibited at Temperance Hall last night
and our citizens will have another opportu’ nity of seeing it to-night. The scenes of
the Garden of Eden are magnificent and are
alone worth the full price of admission, but
there are many other parts of the panorama
are equally as good, and the entire exhibition-is fa¥ superior to anything of the kind
we have ever seen.
the painting.
All should go and see
Haywarp axp HALL.—We tinderstand
; that Hayward 'and Hall will repeat their
concert in this city at an early day. We
are confident that all who attended the first
entertainment will not let the next opportanity slip, and many more: will avail them. elves of the. chance of attending & splendid
concert and a pleasant dance. iam is no
Hies WaTer.—The warm weather within the last few days has caused the snow to.
* melt in the mountains, thus producing “a .
freshet below which is very troublesome to
miners and is doing much damage. Near
North San Juan, mining in the river has
been entirely stopped and sume of the adjacent hill diggings are so flooded with water
that it i impossible to work them, Water,
however, is what is needed in the lower
country, and while it may damage the miver,
_ it will be a great blessing to the farmer.
