The yearly military and naval budget of .Europe alone amounts to $575,000,000 gold, and ‘the annual interest. ofthe capital-invested in the military and marine establishments is ~ given at $147,000,000. To this is also added the loss of the labor of the persons engaged inthe military profession, which amounts to $650,000,000 per year. That the civilized nations of Europe should require such enormous outlays for military purposes, says the Enterprise, in times of comparative peace is a terrible commentary on the loyalty of their subjects.
