The Ban Jose drift claim is situated seventeen miles east of this city, and between the famous old gravel mining camps of Omega and Remington Hill on the supposed line of the great blue lead that has been worked with such success at various points in Placer, Nevada and Sierra counties. The owners of the San Jose claim are prominent men of Santa Clara county, and during the first five years they have expended $32,000 of their good, hard coin in trying tu strike pay dirt. First they sunk a shaft that reached bedrock at a depth of 180 feet, but at a point high up on the rim. They next went nearer the center of the channel as indicated by the pitch, and after sinking 240 feet commenced drifting but encountered more water than they could handle. The shaft was put down 60 feet niore, and drifting was begun at a depth of 300 feet. Ata distance of 90. feet in bed-rock pitching at an angle of 60 degrees was found. Here they saw unwistakable evidences of the main and long-soughtfor channel's presence. . They are now sinking the shaft 35 feet more. When this is done they will drift 150 feet, then faise up into the pay ground which they are gatished will be found there.
