LOCAL ‘AFFAIRS.
The Cold Spring Company,
The contractors who have been
engaged in running the incline for
Cold Spring Gravel Miniog Compa
ny, whose mine is located about twe
miles east of this city, adjoining the
Harmopy ground, completed their
contract yesterday. The incline is
now down about 450 feet. The
» Compeny will.now commence a tunnel from the bottom of the incline,
with a: gradsal raise, in order to
strike the pay channel, which Tans.
This work they
expect toaccomplish in two or thres.
weeks, when tle course of the pay
channel will be fully detérmined.
_A number of claims located alony
the ridge are at present idle, waiting developments from the Cold
Spring Company, and as soon‘us the
direction of the channel is known,
work wiil be commenced. on all of
them. So thit’eonsiderable inaportance is attached to the working of
‘the Cold Spring mine, about. this
“time, by those who Own. claims on
each side. Messrs, Isoard, Rolfe,
and@thers are the owners. of this
mine, and their Perseverance. entitles them to reward for their labor,
which we hope and believe will be a
golden harvest, _ =

Mr. Campbell igs getting out the
frame work for the new depot building, and will have it completed before the cars are ready to 1un,;
_ That wide gauge side walk, leading to the Depot is about completed.
It makes up for the Narrowness of
the railroad track. ,
Chestnut has abont finished the
job of repaiving Suspension bridge
te has been delayed by the weather,
and other things connected with the
work. He has done a good job.
Workmen are now engaged in tuarring the large cables. When that is

Rey. C. E. Rich, pastor of the

Hugh Murehie, after an absence of
six months, is around town greeting
his numerous friends.
Dick Gentry and wife have been
stopping here for the past week.
Dick has promised ug a case as soon
as the Central Pacific will pass it}
over the road. :
The weather has settled down to
business again, and yesterday was as
pleasant as sumuier. It will bea

About a month more will bring the
work to a close.

_ We regret to announcethat Charles
Marsh, Esq., one of the very earliest
pioneers of this city, will shortly Temové to San Francineo. Mr. Marsh
is the owner of the city water works,
_ and has always taken a lively interestin the prosperity of our place. '
His loss to this community is a very
great one, and but few men’ can be
found to 4il bis place. Wherever
he goes the hearty good wishes of

The Daily Transeript
Fryer Process. .
In another column of this morning’s Transcrrpr will be found a
card from Ri M. Fryer, in regard: to
his new. process of working ores. ~ It-.
appears there will be a delay of
about two months longer, in order
to give Mr, Fryer and his associates
time to obtain proper protection for
this new discovery. It seems the
company are fully satisfied that they
can do all they ever-elaimed, and
therefore our. people must be satisfied and contented to wait until
all arrapgements are completed.

A Card.
J, E. Johnston has just returned
from San Francisco, where he purchased the largest and finest stock
of fnrniture ever seen ‘in this county.
Owing to the stringency of the money market, and the fact that he had
the cash to pay for goods, he was
able to buy at-such rates as will enable him to sell at lower prices than
the same guods can be purchased
forin San Francisco by other dealers. His old stock has been nearly
sold out, and nothing bnt new coods
will be offered to buyers. Now is
the time to buy furniture cheap. If
those needing articles in his line
will call, they will-be convinced that
there is no humbug abont the matter. The large stock. will be sold
forty per cent. cheaper than the same
can be bought for in any other house
inthis county. Gall and ‘see the
beautiful new. patterns, whether you
buy or-not. J. E. JOHNSTON,

The Word ‘‘Soxodont, *?
‘Which has already become a houseword, is derived from the Greek, ‘and
composed of two words, Sozo and
Odontes, ‘*Sozo”’ translated, means
to preserve, and ‘“Odontes’’ the
teeth—‘‘SOZODONT”’ a _preserver
of the teeth. Andit is true to its
name. It beautifies and preserves
the teeth, hardens and invigorates
the gums, and corrects all impurities
of the breath. The odor of this
pure preparation is so delightful that
it is a luxury to apply it. It is as
