CaLirorNtA MINING BUREAUASSO*
_ ClaTion.—The California Mining Bureau
. Association was recently organized in San
Francisco.. The. object is. apraiseworthy
one, und so long as those who have taken
_ tthe. matter in hand, strive.in good faith, to
carry out.their avowed purpose, every inan
*. who had adesire for the prosperity _of the
Shute should give aid to the project. That
tthose who are at the head of the Associa.
tion ate competed and will wucceed, we have
“mot the least doubt. They have made the
Associution depeodent upon the fees aud
«dues of its members for support, abd°if those
who become members should. discover that
the purpose of the orgun'zation is not carTied out if willsoon cease to exist.
We have betore us a copy of the Constitution aod By-laws of the Associatiun. The
object of the Society is there said to be, to
assist in developing the unmense mineral re aotirces of this great State, and thus be inogtromental in enriching the people, turnish~
ing remunerative ewpluyment to the luborang man, and reducing the oppressive taxes
they have now to pay to carry of State_and
county governments, by largely incrensing
the amount of taxable property, All claset
€8 of sucivty are interested in the sucecss of .
this Society, The Associatiun desgas to
~precure all availuble mforwation coucerning
the mineral resources of every county in the
State, aud to use every effort to procure the
development of valuable mines, A. cabinet;
containing specimens from every part of the
State, and a hbrary,; will be connected with
the Society. *
It 1s impoasible to estimate the benefit
the State-will derive from: an. organization
of this kind. At the next session of Congress a mining bureau will in all probability
be created at Wasbington, and such an organization as 1s proposed at San Francisco
will be able to furnish the Government with
reliable information in regard to our mines.
With such facilities as will then be offered
for obtaining information, we needhave. no
fears of injudiciots and oppressive laws being passed by Congress,
While we teartily wish the Mining Bureau
success, We think that there is some itiprovemente which might be made in it, These of
course time and experience wi!l bring.—
"The organization should be brought near to
\
the miuing sections uf the State, and those
who are engaged every day i the business,
should be made tofeel that they have part in
. the society. This end would be secured by
the organization of branch secieties in each
mining county, or by the appointment of an
agent in every mining coudty, and making it
hia duty toexamine the mines, secure mem> bers, and make stated reports to headquarters. It would seem to us impossible for
parties residing in San Francisco to obtain
any reliable statements in regard to mines
an a distant mining section, without. local aid.
We notice no ebjection in the plan for
the organization which cannot be easily removed and no deabt miny improvements will
_ be made when the practical part of the work
commences, The initiation. fee is five dollars, and the dues, three dollars per quarter.
J.P. Linthicum is Correepon_ ing Secretary
of the Association, and will give any desired
information tn regard tothe objects and anns
of the Society. i cee
‘Pue Napa Reporter says that experience
* has taught farmers in California that early
sowing of wheat and barley is the best—that
heavier and more bountiful crops are realized. As many have practically t sted the
matter and fouud this te be a tect, our farmers should immediately begin to prepare
for ploughing.

AINFUL ACCIDENT.—CharlessKitto, a
little son -of Mr. Wm. Kitts, says the

The little fellow (who is only some two years
and a half old) and his sister were playing

The Stace Rospperny.—J. L. Bachelor,
C. H. Hicks, E. 8. Gross, Mr. Fushay, E. F.
Skinoer. and Chas. Crowell, are the names of
. the vietime inthe Stage robbery near Virginia, mentioned a few days since, The Enterprise says the total amount of losses, won't
vary much from the pitiful sum of $2,350,
including three watches, valued at #850.
leaving the cash spoils at $1,500, or $300
each for five men, to take the chances of a
life in prison, A startling epitome on bard
times tind bad morals.
FUNNY AFFAIR.—A couple of respectabies
citizens went to a lawyer’s office in Oroville,
tu have a deed executed. There they gut to
aud stashed the lawyer's furniture all to
pieces. At this juncture the lawyer got
mad, wentin and put themboth out; after
whicb they quit fighting, compromised on the
twenty dollars and paid the damages.
IMMENSE herds of cattle are pouring-into
Louisiana from Texas, and the price of beef
in New Orleans has fallen to fifteen cente.—
In other parts of the State the price ranges
from seven to ten cents per pound. The
price in Texas is five cente. :
SPECULATION.—A_ fellow recently stole
thirty bead of cattle at Colusa,, drove them
to Placer county, sold them and got the cash.
That might be stule them back again. together with filty others, drove theiny tu. Bear
River and sold the whole Jot.
THe Boston Traveler mentions a hermit
named Seth Bailey, who lives at Hopkinton.
He ia 78 years old, and has lived by himself
in the same hut over half a century. He
has worn the same puir of pants twenty
years. He never voted but once, and that
was for Lincoln at his last. election ; that
. he considers the great event ef his hfe.
A DISCOURAGED Chinainan at Weaver.
ville got out of humor with the world, took
too much opium and gave up the ghost in
“Five Cent Gulch.” A beugarly place to
die in, that, even for a ‘busted up” Chinaman.
Tue Sonors Herald tells of a man who,
hating been defeated. for office, was asked
whut he was geing to dvabouc itt “Why,”
said_he, deliberately “I think TE shalHett hie
town go to h—l!" ;
A SuccessFuL Mepicine.—The sale of
Adams’ Blood Purifier has become so great
since its. discovery that most of the Sarsaparilla imported from the East bas became
more or less poisonous by being kept so long
in bottles, and the careless mannerin which
it is put up for the California market. The
fact that the manufacturer of Adams’ Blood
Purifier is compelled to employ two sets of
workmen, one by night and one by day, is
evidence of its growing popularity, and
speaks well for California enterprise: As
itis a strictly vegetable preparation, most
of whieh is of California growth, we wish
it greatly increased sales. si
