Broad Street Victorious.
——
The two nines of base ballists
representing Broad and Commercial streets came together at
Cashin’s field Sunday afternoon
and the Commercialists got badly
scooped. It was perhaps the
worst game of ball ever played in
the county by full grown men.
They hada good umpire (Wm.
Hutchinson) and the fairness of
his decisions was about the only
thing in the contest deserving of
favorable mention: It is suspected-by some that the Commercial street club was ‘‘throwing off”
in order to get the Broad streeters to play again and ‘stake 4
substantial consideration on the
result, but this is probably a mistake. Following are the gentlemen who comprise the two clubs:
Broad Street—Vaughn, Eagan,
Colley, Schmidt, McGibbons, Ashburn, Thurston, Richards, Williams.
Commercial street — Seeley,
Thomas, Carr, Rosenthal, Sharp,,
Smith, Shurtleff, Jackson, Nihell.
