NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA.
LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
THE Democrats of this city, with a
view, no doubt, to the abolishment of. an
unpleasant reminder of their late defeat,
yesterday took down their speakers’
stand. Judging from the exertion pat
forth in its disintegration, it would, if
left alone, have long survived the
diseased old hulk of the party under
whose auspices it was erected, We
suppose its remains will. be carefully
distributed as relics among the faithful,
and would therefore suggest, that the
best plank in the lot be reduced toa
convenient size for transportation, and
sent to Horatio Seymeur. It would be
needless to have an inscription of any
kind—he would immediately recognize
it as Democratic wood!
SENT To JAm.— Walter Lane, the
man arrested for carrying a_concealed
weapon, was\on Friday fined $25 by
' Judge Palmet. In default of payment
he was ordered to take his meals for the
next twelve or thirteen days at the
Hotel de Potter, and when we last heard
_ of hit ‘he was growling about going to
bed with a Chiaaman.
THE TANNERS.—The Nevada Tanners, to the number of one hundred
and ten, went to Sacramento last eve—
ning to participate in the jollification
over the Union victories. The news
that there would be 4 train from Colfax
didnot reach this place until a late
hour on Friday night, and as many of
the members of the organization lived
ata distance, word could not be gotten to thera. With requisite time a
battalion of four hundred could: have
been raised. The boys who went down
are well drilled, and gave a good
account, of themselves in the procession.
SHorr.—The Transcript of to-day
was run on short force, .as more than
half of the attaches went to-Sacraniento
