La _. Surprise Party.
Rev. P. Y. Coq}, ot. the M. EB.
Church, was considerably surprised
on Friday night, by having his resi* dence besieged by members of his
Church and friends generally. We
believe he was kept entirely ignorant .
of the matter until-the parties ‘arrived. The basement of the Church
wag used as a reception room and it"
was filled with people. A table about
fifty feetin length was loaded down
with eatables and had to be spread .
-twieeto allow all present to be ac.
commodated, While the Paster was
athe Church, the ‘Parsonage Was,
wAentered: by friend who left:a supply
of case-foods, groceries and other:
articles and a nice.little, purse in
eae ome, 1 .
_._.coin Was alse made by a few friends.’
The whole thing was an entire impromtugffair and under the circumstances was a grand, success. Hada
public-notice been given however,
and an evenirg selected when so
many societies did net meet, the
amount raised and the number pres-. .
eat would have been thribbled. Rev.
Mr. Coclis a comparative stranger
_ in our midst, but he numbers among
his warm personal friends all with
whom he has met, The party was . a
‘@ very pleasant affair and will long
be remembered by all whe attended.

Ep. Transcript: Will you be so
‘kind as to allow us to retarn our
thanks, through the columns of your
paper, to the many kind friends who
favored us with their company on
the evening of the 13th. We thank
them, one and all, for the substan‘tial tekeas of their regard which
theyleft with us. The gold and silver, and the abundant supply of gro«ceties, &c., we fully appreciate. But
above all do we feel grateful for
‘what lies back of, and prompted
those tokens—the coop witu —of the
people toward us. . Such assurances
of sympathy and love make labor
amoung you a positive pleasure.
Most respectfully yours,
P.Y. & 8. M. Goon.

Why Shaket Why Burnt
Put these two questions to a man passing
through the alternate paroxysms of fever
and ague, and he will probably reply, ‘‘Because I cannot help myself.” But he is
mistaken. He can help himeelf. He
need not continue to endure the marrowsearching cold and parching heat of. inter.
mittent fever unless he chooses.
If theres an established fact in the his
tory of medication, itis this: that Hostetter’s Stomach Bittersinvariably breaks up
the fits of this exhaustimg disease. Quie often fails, and whether it fails or
take.” Notso this f:
cific. It is mild “agreeable, not p
gent and ng. The liver és always
greatly disordered in intermittent end re
mitt fevers, and this excellent tonic
alterative has anti-billious properties
of the highest order. The stimulant omployed to diffuse its. medicinal virtues
through the organs of the body is perfect
ly pure, and this cannot be seid of the
spirituous basis of any other tonic. The
best advice that can be given to persons
residing in malarious regions, or in crowded cities, is to take it as a preventive of
diseases incident to both. Whether used
asa protective_antidote or a remedy, ¢
will be found wonderfully efficacious.
