Davis, a buckskin purse containing $65 in old -gold coins fell from the rafters where it had been hid, and was found on the ground by Mrs. McAllistér. The purse was hard and discolored with age, and had evidently.been stored away there a good many years. Michael Arnstead, who has long been dead, used to live in the cabin. A Challenge. Eprror Transcript—William -Adams struck me on the street without provocation on the 26th day of April-last. I will fight William Adams outside of this city’s limits, for satisfacton, any style he may request. I hope he will meet me honestly and squarely, and notattack mein any such a cowardly manner again. I hope he will accept my proposition. Respectfully Yours, “James Roppa. Nevada City, May 4th, 1885. “Don’t Worry Me with your complaints about your teeth,” said an annoyed father to his “sweet sixteener.”» “I told you to buy the SOZODONT and use it, but you didn’t and you de‘gerve to suffer.’ And so she did, and all other sweet-sixteeners who act like her. A Profitable Dance. A dance was given at the. town of Washington last Saturday night to raise funds for the benefit of the public school there, The sum of $170 was cleared and everybody “who went had a good time. The Hyman Matter. -Oh the petition of L. Hyman, Judge Walling has dismissed the Saturday, and Mr. Hyman has made an assignment to Marcus bors.seem to be excited on the subject of thisfair. They are an excitable ple who dwell in the shadow of the courthouse. Those people have the s ,80 to speak, and it remains to seen if they have the endurance necessary for the race. Our contemporary, and all other friends ofthe Seventeeth District Association, can rest assured ‘that. Nevada City will do her full share in the premises. Our citizens are in thorough earnestness about making the fair what it should be, and their earnestness extends to their pocket books. The race will be theirs because they have not only the swiftness, but the strength. —— oo Where to Buy.
