acenll peordmre of Act to and ounty to the ts fon = ore. Law. ine tite. ‘Beanseript WevADA CITY, CAL. LOCAL AFFAIRS, Funand Music. Lovers of fun.and music should not neglect to attend the Theatre on Friday and Saturday nights, (tonight and to-morrow night, ) whether itrains or not. The Appeal, speaking of Billy Emerson and his troupe, . : says there was not a vacant seat in ~ the house on the occasion of their re1 ¢ p cent performance there. ‘The company proved everything that was claimed for it, and gave entire satisfaction as was testified by the hearty applause and continuous roar of laughter. Billy Emerson is a host in himself, his style is entirely original, and as a, character singer he has no superior. His contortions, ridiculous grimaces, original steps, and manner throughout belong exclusively. to himself, and are far’ above the ipere imitations that are too often given by actors in“ his line.’’ Such sperformance as will be given ‘by this troupe is worth a trip through the rain. Let the Theatre be well filled to night, and a crowded house will be the result on Saturday evening. é The Carnival. On the 224, the skating carnival in this city will take place, and Mr. Bullard is making extensive preparations for it. He has invented a new plane with an eight inch blade for smoothing the rough flocr, and it Works toa charm. He has also an arrangement by which he can clean the floor for dancing inten or fifteen minutes. Every arrahgement will be made for the enjoyment of the guests at the carnival..Good music will be furnished and ladies will be admitted free. No disreputable persons will be allowed in the hall, and the cloak room will be attended to without‘fee. The carnival will be the affair of the season, errs ? The Dead Man. The man who was found dead in San Francisco, who Was supposed to be from Grass Valley, turns out to _ be G. D. Orcutt, a native of Connec: . ticut, who had been saperintending the Summerset mine on Spring Hill, Grass Valley. Those who know Oreatt think he committed suicide. Some three or four months ago he shot himself at the Benson House, in Grass Valley, but not seriously. It was supposed then that he intended suicide. Orcutt had been drinking very hard and was behind with the company in money matters. He was relieved of his place about the Ist of November, and went over thc mountains and then to. San Francisco, where he was found dead. Those who know him say he has several times threatened to kill himself, ‘Phe Rain Fan. Thomas Tennant, of San Francis¢0, estimates that the rain fall this year will be. 24 inches at San Francisco. He bases his calculations upon careful estimates of the fall for each year since 1850. He takes the year 1861, and then comparing the geasons preceding that Winter with the Winter of 1861, concludes that this season will be 24 inches, If his estimates are correct, we may calculate upon. from 60 to 80 inches of water in this locality, Change of Time, John Major has changed the time of the Grass Valley stage, The first stage now jeaves Grass Valley at 9 o’closk, and leaves Nevada for Grass Valley at 10 o'clock, On the second trip Johnny brings the Kestern mails id passengers, leaving Grass Valley at 1 o'clock, and reaching Nevada #62 0'clock. Retarning he will take “engers to Grass Valley to conneet With the Telegraph stages for Colfax, ‘The third trip he leaves Grass Volley at 4 o'clock, and leaves Nevaa at 5 o'clock, , 4 ce The Bloomficld Dam, ¥ The North Bloomfield Gravel Mining Company propose to raise their dam on Big Cafion ereek, near Bow*fféct has been placed on file in the] Comity Recorder's office by the company, ey ~ The-rain fall for the last rain was ‘Senson’of 1:59 inches. “The rain fal ‘Goldemith Ahead. Perhaps not in itself, while it rethains mere indigestion; but look at the consequences to which it may lead, and often does lead when it becomes a chronic disease. A spark of fire is a small thing. A pressure of the foot WN1 put it out; a breath ‘will extinguish it. Yet it may fire a powder mill, or kindle aflame that will consume acity. In like manner indigestion may produce gastritis, cancer of the stomach, congestion of the bowels, apoplexy, liver disease, and many other dangerous maladies. It is not wise, then, to check it inthe germ? Nothing is more clearly and indisputably established than that Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters will eradicate dyspepsia in all its stages. The true policy, however, is to extinguish it in the first stages with this wholesome; powerful, and infal. lible tonic and alterative. It is easier to quench a spark than a flame, and it is easier to cure dyspepsia when it is first developed, than when it has made headway by neglect, and become complicated with other ailments. There is not the shadow of a doubt that the bitters are as directly antagonistic to dyspepsia as water is to fires There are thousands of cases on record proving this iact. The remedy is safe and agreeable. All the liquors of commerce prescribed as stimulants, leave a sting behind. But the sting is taken out af the spirituous basis of this great remedy by vegetable medication, and, moreover, the stimulant thus medica. ted is of saceptional purity.” Of all tonics taken as safeguards or remedies for fever and ague, billious remittents, and other fall epidemics, it is the only one that can uniformly be depended upon.
